The discoveries on our Allosaurus specimen just keep coming! Beyond being mostly complete and amazingly articulated, our Allosaurus specimen was preserved with extensive skin impressions. These skin impressions give us a much better understanding of what this animal would have looked like when it was alive. Over Fall Break, this one-of-a-kind Allosaurus skull and skin block will be on display in the Paleo Lab for you to see up close & personal! Talk with the actual paleontologists who discovered it and hear about how they got it back to Indiana safely, how they must handle it with care to preserve it, and how they will study it to understand more about what this animal would have looked like when it was alive. This moment of discovery is sure to give you CHILLS! Check out the Go Pro footage from our paleontologist team as they were about to make a huge discovery during the 2024 dino dig season. They uncovered the fully intact snout of an Allosaurus skeleton they have been excavating since 2020. As they worked to remove the chunk of rock containing the fossil, they had to think quick to ensure the snout remained fully intact. Any wrong move could have resulted in crushing the snout. Pure. Dino. Joy! Check out this absolutely incredible discovery unearthed by our very own paleontologists during their summer dig season in Wyoming! This Allosaurus snout was found nearly fully intact. You can see the large, serrated teeth and even a cross-section of the dinosaur’s sinuses. The snout belongs to the mostly complete, articulated Allosaurus being worked on in our Paleo Lab, adding to the wow factor of this already significant specimen! Over Fall Break, visit our Paleo Lab to check it out in person. This is just the beginning—over the next several years, our paleontologists will continue to prep and study this Allosaurus skeleton.
