Generally speaking, online ups is more widely used than line interactive ups but at a higher cost.
Online UPS: pure sine wave, 0 transfer time, voltage regulation continuously convert AC to DC and DC to AC, double conversion, more protections than line interactive ups, usually used at hospital, medical, big service center room.
Line interactive UPS: simulated sine wave, 4-5ms transfer time, voltage regulation with boost and buck when voltage too low or too high, less protection than online ups, surely less cost also. Most use on computer related equipment.
