WHERE’S YOUR LINE IN THE SAND?
As we are reaching the very last few weeks, days and hours of 2022, there’s a lot on our minds. Not only do we have the holidays approaching with all the usual expectations, but we also have a new year approaching.?
What will 2023 bring? What will it mean for us? How might we ensure it’s a much better year and expand on the good things that have emerged over the past few years?
Many wonder if they’ll have a job. Or if they’ll still be able to work remotely, either full, or part-time. They wonder if they’ll have more, or less autonomy and flexibility. And what impact someone else’s decisions will have on their lives. So many unknowns which could include a leadership that decides to mandate a #RTO . A Board that decides to do away with a whole department. A key client that’s lost. A new contract won. A new boss with different ideas. A merger. A promotion. Things can change so rapidly that it makes a rollercoaster look tame.?
It begs the question: how many important decisions in life are made for us by others, and how many do we really make for ourselves?
And are we okay with that, or do we want 2023 to be our ‘line in the sand’ for taking control of our own lives? Are we going to do an honest and open with ourselves ‘year-end assessment’ and come up with our own proposal for having a life we want to live with during the coming year? This could make the difference between us going into 2023 with energy, optimism and a clear plan, or dragging into it with dread.
We need to ask ourselves how we want our lives to progress from here on out.
What’s going to be the route that’s best for us personally and professionally? And are those two things mutually exclusive, or can we achieve both with a plan that’s best for our own lives?
Are we going to walk a ‘road less traveled’ or are we going to go with the flow?
These are questions that we should ask ourselves sooner, rather than later. None of us know how much time we have and none of us want to look back on our lives and have regrets for the things we didn’t do, the choices we didn’t make because we chose to just ‘hang in there’ with the status quo.?
We really don’t need to wait for some kind of crisis to stop us in our tracks and make us examine our lives and our choices. It’s the end of a year and the beginning of a new year - psychologically a great time to stop, examine, assess, reflect and reimagine who and where we want to be this time next year.?
I’m not a motivational speaker, a psychologist or a coach. I’m someone who speaks from experience and my heart is to help people by sharing insights I’ve gained. I’ve spoken often before about how my friend and mentor and co-founder of Optevo helped me to make the changes that resulted in Optevo coming into existence. And the desire we had to make life easier for others by ensuring that their work life doesn’t end up being their life’s work.
So I encourage you now to stop, think, and begin to dream of a 2023 where you are making the right decisions for you!

1 年This is exactly what I do with my clients Andre Williams. Far too many people think they can only truly have what they want & do the work they want after they retire. As you said, we never know if we have that long. And even if we do, do you really want to put satisfaction that far out in the future? Thanks for the shout-out. I appreciate you and the good messages you share.

1 年“None of us know how much time we have and none of us want to look back on our lives and have regrets for the things we didn’t do, the choices we didn’t make because we chose to just ‘hang in there’ with the status quo.” I love this quote Andre Williams. When we choose to hang in there with the status quo, we are just selling ourselves short and setting ourselves up for regret. I believe the best way to predict the future is to create it. When we begin with the end in mind, we can create a roadmap to bring this future to life. It won’t be a straight line. It will be a journey. It will be worth it. Just love the conversations you are creating here. I am a huge fan on you.
