Where's Your BrokeBack Mountain??—?Day 12 #100Days100Words
I watched Brokeback Mountain for the first time tonight with Alyra. What a beautiful film on so many levels. The acting, the storytelling and direction, and the scenery (should have been listed as another cast member in our opinion).
The two protagonists love each other completely, but are forced to live apart due to societal norms. They meet periodically in a place that is rugged, expansive, raw, and gorgeous, just like their relationship and it’s this place that maintains their connection. It’s the physical anchor of their relationship.
I have lived all over the world and while I have lived the greatest number of years in Seattle, my roots were never there. I’ve always felt a deeper connection to India, where I was born, and to upstate New York, where I spent my childhood and where Alyra and I were married. Now here too in California, we have a magical and primeval place that we are blessed to go to. It is part of our shared roots, our anchor here and a source of great truth for us.
