In the context of organizational health, attachment principles can be applied to understand and improve the relationships and bonds within a company or group. Organizational health is the overall well-being and effectiveness of a company or group. A healthy organization is one that is able to adapt and thrive in a changing environment, while also promoting the well-being and satisfaction of its employees. This always starts with the leadership team, and especially the CEO as the secure base of the organization. One way to understand and improve organizational health is through the lens of attachment principles.
Attachment theory is a psychological model that describes the emotional bonds that form between people, and how these bonds influence our behavior and relationships. According to attachment theory, all human beings have an intense drive to connect with others that starts at birth with the primary attachment figure or secure base (usually mother and then father). We all have a basic need for security, connection, to survive as infants. How our early attachment needs are met (or not met) can have a lasting impact on our lives. This is unconscious map of how we see the world. Whether at work, play, social relationships or intimate relationships this attachment drive which formed our unconscious map is the main source of information about the world.? When we focus on organizational health in our organizations we are using the most powerful drive within the human being to develop the connections and bonds that will increase efficiency, productivity, communication and overall work fulfillment.
Here are a few key ways in which attachment principles are successfully used to promote organizational health:

·????????Foster a sense of security and stability: A healthy organization is one that provides its employees with a sense of security and stability. This can be achieved through developing clarity and direction, consistency within communication, and the provision of necessary resources and support. This means that there is vulnerability based trust throughout the organization. People are comfortable with bringing attention to problems and talking about difficult topics and situations that will impede progress in the work.
·????????Promote connection and belonging: Strong bonds and connections within an organization can improve teamwork, collaboration, and overall job satisfaction. Encourage employees to build relationships with one another and create a sense of community within the company. Even learning just a little bit about each other promotes understanding and protects against the fundamental attribution error.
·????????Support employees' emotional experiences: Attachment theory emphasizes the importance of emotional support, validation and understanding in building and maintaining healthy relationships. This has nothing to do with coddling people but is really more about honoring the human experience. As such, it is important for organizations to recognize and support the emotional experience of all their employees. This can again be achieved through open and effective communication, as well as the provision of resources for employees who experience difficulties such as employee assistance programs and mental health support.
·????????Encourage personal growth and development: According to attachment theory, we all have a basic drive for personal growth and development. By supporting and encouraging employees to learn new skills and take on new challenges, organizations can foster a sense of purpose and meaning within the workplace.
By applying simple attachment principles found within organizational health, companies and groups can create a healthy, effective, high-performance environment that promotes the well-being and effectiveness of their employees. This leads to increased job satisfaction, productivity, and overall success.
