Where Are You Based?
A while ago I had a problem. I had just entertained at a luxury wedding in Vernantes, France at Chateau de Jalesnes - 雅勒斯内城堡 , (lovely venue) and had to get back for another wedding in Portsmouth 2 days later. Unfortunately all flights had been cancelled and there was almost no way to get there in time.
In fact I made it...just. By hiring a car, taking the fastest train to Paris, staying a night in a hotel, catching the first Eurostar to London, boarding a train to Heathrow, picking up the car, driving home, quick change, then off to Portsmouth (Phew) to go to a small residential house (the wedding venue) where I was met by the bride in a dressing gown and slippers.
This was not a French chateau, this was not a luxury wedding, there was no expensive dress, no bridesmaids and no groomsmen in fancy suits. This was a less than wealthy lady with terminal cancer on her wedding day, and I was entertaining her small group for free.
Why do I mention it?
Clients sometimes ask "where are you based?" It's not an unreasonable question but I suspect the subtext is "can I rely on you?".
Of course I know the above story and they don't but I hope you'll agree that if I will spend my own money to charge across two countries to get to an event where I am not being paid then the answer to the question "can you rely on Red Hat Magic?" is yes.
