Where are we heading?

Individuals from birth to infancy, from infancy to childhood, from childhood to adolescence, and from adolescence to adulthood, attempt to discover more of themselves. The family tells them that they could achieve this through education that is by doing well in studies.??The society tells them that they could be visible and significant by generating wealth, and or turning themselves into highly accomplished professionals. The culture with its myths and epics tells that they could become legends by performing better than others through idealism and by following the right paths. The cultural lore has innumerable role models of idealism, sacrifice, and self-righteousness on the one hand, and role models of warriors and their bravery and courage in battles and wars on the other.?

All these were role models of an agrarian society of five millenniums where the world had a different landscape. Today, the terrain has changed and the landscape is global. Heroes of yesteryears are different from today's leaders. Those who are in the organizational structure and hierarchy, occupying positions at the top of the pyramid, are recognized as leaders. These are roles that lead the collective of the organization and provide directions of growth. These leaders are the ones who walk in front and give a call to the rest to follow and they walk forward. Then there are the people who are identified and selected to play these roles. They go through the appraisals and assessment to find the qualities considered as leadership qualities. The experiential and physical powers, the stamina and courage, the ability and the skills to survive in an unpredictable and uncertain environment to cope with disasters (both manmade and natural), become imperative for individuals to emerge as the unquestioned holders of destiny of the collective and the system. Today, it is the game of the mind, strategic and sometimes manipulative in approach, the ability to outsmart and outmaneuver the opponent to have enough resources to stake a claim of the crown is considered important.
