WHERE UNLEARNING CAN SERVE YOU BETTER THAN LEARNING

Have you found that constantly learning new things hasn't been serving you as much recently as it used to,?my friend?
When I realized that for me for the first time, I was quick to blame myself.
Obviously, I must be learning the wrong things.
Or maybe I wasn't as smart as I like to believe.
Because if I were, new knowledge and certifications would automatically lead to greater success, right?
Not necessarily. Maybe (like me, a while back) you are currently in a phase where unlearning a few things might serve you a lot better than accumulating new know-how and degrees.?
That's a tough concept to wrap our minds around, especially for those of us who spent their early years in straight-A student land. If you're willing to give it a try, though, here are three good points to start UN-learning:
“Everything I put my name on needs to be perfect.”
You've heard me say it before and I will continue to say it: Perfectionism may be the holy cow of most educational systems, but it is utterly (or should I say,?udderly?) unsuitable for the complexities of our adult lives and careers.
“As an expert, I need to know everything there is to know about my topic.”
Again, that works for tests with clearly defined scopes, and?only?those. You'll never get to the point where you feel you know it all, so how about?not?wasting your energy on it in the first place? Get out there before you feel ready.?
“If I were efficient, I would be on top of all the things.”
Believe me, I dream of conquering my to-do list as much as anybody, or more. But I have way too many ideas (and tend to write them down) to ever make that happen. If that's you as well, know that it's?normal. It doesn't mean you are a failure. Not. At. All.
