Where to start training students to speak in English Language ?

Moment we depute or appoint someone to teach students to speak in English, it's found the for years and years the exercise in the end of the grammar book is drilled which aims at judging whether a sentence is correct or wrong, fill the write form of the word and many other activities. Luckily I never learnt to speak English from grammar book but just heard good people speaking in television and my teachers.

Ask any student who is not able to speak in English language about what is PARTS OF SPEECH or Formula to make sentences in a particular tense, they will be able to answer but they may not be able to speak in English because approach towards making students EXPRESS AND VOICE OUT might have lacked among many who are good in grammar but can speak.

Very recently I have taken up an assignment to improve the ability of the students to speak and express in English language. I wanted to know why students even after knowing grammar so much and have read so many fairy tales and even after passing grade examinations are not expressive. The reason gave me the pay way to barge in to the area of difficulty and mend it.

Oral drill with situation is required instead of the cognition of "First person, second person, Subject Verb Agreement" . I gathered a few verbs from the students and made a list of pronouns with which root verb and root verb + s/es has to be used. What if the write word doesn't get recalled, do we train students to EXPRESS and EXPLAIN using the feature of the object if it's right name is not known ? Once that is done, students do have enough number of verbs and structures to make sentences with minimum required vocabulary.

I remember a small ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROJECT which I had run namely - A.S.E.L - meaning AAO SIKHE ENGLISH LANGUAGE - Come Let's Learn English. In which many of my students after an years time were absorbed by B.P.Os in I.T companies, were those who use to stammer and fumble in the beginning. Teaching English language is not a challenge any more because due to the use of Internet all are engaged in English Language Usage, willingly or unwillingly.

So, irrespective of age or learners level, ability to speak English can develop in 6 months time or even faster , but still if it's a challenge then one needs to introspect a lot within.
