Where Are Our Leaders?

They often ask where are our Leaders. Who's the next Saudana, Zik, or Awolowo? But I'm here to tell you. It's time to stop looking at other people to lead you to the promised Land. I'm not prophet Moses neither am I prophet Yeshua or Muhammad peace be upon them. I am just a cursing martyr. However, I challenge you to lead yourselves. I don't want to walk in front of you, rather I want us to walk side by side because we are all in this situation together whether at home or in the diaspora. Nigeria is our fatherland, our homeland. Our founding fathers/ancestors fought endlessly for this country brick by brick with bloody hands. And how dare we spill each other's blood on the roads they walked on? Or now fight on various topics on social media. It is time for us to stop playing the blame game our throw insults at each other and become the heroes we in turn yearn for. A lot of these nay-sayers don't care about you and me what they like is to divide us all and we all stand to be the casualties in the end. What some of these people in politics wants is a bigger office and the massage of their respective ego. And to be candid, that's what most politicians want. But I am one patriot who sees the endless possibilities for this country. I am rooted in values and enjoy my profession as a journalist and an advocate raised by a mother who likes justice which is why I match for civil rights not to give talking points but ask questions and seek how those we elect into the office can do what is right for the progress of the nation. And for 15 years on social media, I have been doing this. The lifespan of an average Nigerian is cut short due to the ineptitude of some public officeholders, and issues with mental health and safety are taking center stage in our lives at home, community, state, and federal levels. These are issues that ought to be resolved by leaders with merits, Meritocracy should be the answer to our dilemma to be candid. Enough of Nepotism and every ism that hasn't helped us in the past decades. In the course of this campaign, let's do the needful to present our candidate as best as we can, and not mudslinging, and let's be truthful with ourselves, the people who are in politics that we have as forerunners are not perfect and so are we the followers. So I implore you not to demand something of your leaders, you don't demand of yourselves. We've all done our share of national destruct. Let's ensure we have structures in place to checkmate the excesses of the people whom we put in office and by so doing things will begin to fall into shape.
