Where are the new Mandelas?

Where are the new Mandelas?

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. What do you think about when you read his name?

Whenever I hear or read his name, I am thinking of true leadership, courage, and altruism.

Today we celebrate another #mandeladay A day that celebrates an inspiring human being, that against all odds managed to change the world for the better.

How is it then possible that nowadays we see such a lack of inspiring leaders around the world when in the past we had such inspiring ones?

Personally see 2 main reasons for that:

1.Self-confidence.

Compassionate, kind, and smart people tend to overthink things, underestimate their capacities, want to do everything perfectly, and lack self-confidence. The result is that those power vacuums are getting filled by people like Trump and co.

If we want to see a better world, we have to provide those great people around us with the confidence, that they have all that it takes to become a great leader.

The same goes for you. People constantly share with you what a great human being you are? There must be some truth in it. So don’t beat yourself up too much and get your confidence level up.

2. Demand.

Not everyone likes to become a leader and this is ok.

However, it is then our job to set the bar higher and demand more of our current leaders. For too long leaders in politics, business, organizations etc. got away with it all (Exploitation, Racism, Corruption just to name a few).

To stop current developments, we have to elect better leaders, speak up to them when things develop in the wrong direction, and unite to make them listen.

So let’s start leading the way to a better future! Why not start with the first small step and be part of the #mandelachallenge ? Take 67 minutes today (one for each year Nelson Mandela served his country) to make the world a better place. Help your community, pick up trash, search for an NGO, plant a tree etc. the possibilities are endless. It is just a little step, but can be the start of a great journey. Let's do this!

Last but not least how do you define great leadership? I would love to know and discuss with you.
