Where neuroscience meets coaching.

Where neuroscience meets coaching.

The Neuroscience Coaching Network is an online professional training program and global community created for new, experienced, and certified coaches or helping professionals with a genuine interest in the application of brain science to their practice.

Our purpose is for the?thoughtful and rigorous development of neuroscience-informed coaching practice?through education, collaboration, and community.

If you share our passion for juicy conversation and appreciate the value of human connection and laughter (even if, for now, it is via Zoom!), consider joining us for our inaugural virtual voyage!

The NCN is made up of THREE PARTS:

  1. Five-week applied neuroscience training
  2. 10-week triad coaching challenge
  3. Invited speaker series.

COURSE OVERVIEW: FIRST FIVE WEEKS

For our first five weeks, members will complete online training modules and attend live Zoom group coaching sessions covering the following topics:

If you’ve completed any of my applied neuroscience training you’ll be familiar with some of the ideas I teach such as the?Bottom-Up Outside-In Top-Down Brain?and thinking about behaviour change from the perspective of?the Will, the Wont and the Way.?(If you’re not familiar with these ideas, don’t worry (!) we offer access to the on-demand applied neuroscience course during the NCN enrolment process).

The NCN is designed to take these ideas and others from neurobiology, psychology and human behaviour, and thoughtfully integrate them into your coaching practice.

Let me take you through an overview of the course modules.

In?ME,?we take a bird's eye view of?how neuroscience and coaching fit together. We'll take a look at lessons learned from applying neuroscience in classroom education and mental health therapy. You'll be challenged to think about how you're building an evidence-based practice, and what you do when you encounter 'seductive neuroscience' concepts: are they 'exciting' or are deeply transformative? You'll learn a framework for reflecting on new experiences.?And in our first live Zoom, you'll bring an object that represents your coaching approach (because Who you are is How you coach!).

WE:?During our second week, we'll address?the coaching relationship and the neurobiology of trust and rapport.?We'll review neuroscience research on?the social brain, and cutting edge new research showing that 'being on the same wavelength' as someone is reflected in synchronous brain waves. Because the co-creation of the coaching relationship is core to your work, you'll share experiences of when you've created (or failed to build)?unconditional positive regard, empathy and acceptance.

In?WHERE, we'll explore the latest research on?goal-setting, motivation and future thinking. Many of your clients have a dream or vision, so how can neuroscience help?you?help?them?get there. As a coach, you'll know questions move us from passive acceptance to applying creative problem-solving. In our Zoom breakout rooms, you'll be asked to share those?juicy questions that create generative moments.

HOW:?During our 4th week, we'll address three big neuroscience concepts that offer coaches the most direct and powerful way to support clients on their journey:?habits, emotions and resilience. We have access to clear and accurate language and tools to work with habits, emotions and stress in coaching conversations. No need to search around or develop your own tools or frameworks here!

HERE:?In our final week of 'the first five', I'll take you through the?art and science of communicating neuroscience?because there are some special considerations you need to be aware of. We'll discuss how to address curly questions such as 'Are the mind and brain the same thing?' and the philosophical and religious meaning of mind-body problem. I'll teach you the fundamentals of science communications: e.g. facts don't change minds (empathy does). And I'll convince you that fractions and common denominators are fun (as well as important).

Our final week will also be when your geographical triads are formed, Dr Mary Collins will introduce you to your 10-week coaching challenge, and we'll look ahead to meeting the neuroscientists and other invited experts who'll be supporting you.

COURSE OVERVIEW: TRIAD COACHING CHALLENGE

Following the five-week training, members are grouped into geographical triads to embark on a 10-week coaching challenge. Each triad will choose a neuroscience topic to explore in-depth and integrate that knowledge into a coaching framework or tool.

To deepen knowledge and practice, members will be accompanied by?Dr. Mary Collins, a Dublin-based coaching psychologist, and leadership development specialist.

COURSE OVERVIEW: INVITED SPEAKER SERIES

A weekly speaker and workshop series will run concurrently with the triad challenge. We have additional speakers and workshops lined up for the second half of 2022.

Our invited neuroscientists and trainers include:

  • Professor Muireann Irish who'll discuss?how our brains use the memories of the past to predict the future?and shape goal setting,
  • Professor Sarah Whittle who'll teach a workshop on the?neurobiology of social emotions?including guilt, shame, and empathy,
  • Cognitive neuroscientist Dr. Jared Cooney Hovarth will discuss the opportunities and pitfalls of?integrating neuroscience into teacher education,
  • Neuropsychologist Dr. Lou Cozolino will present a case study on?coaching a corporate client with neuroscience,
  • Professor Philippe Rosinski will teach a workshop titled 'Coaching people who are not WEIRD: Western, Educated, Industrialised, Rich, Democratic.'
  • Heath communicator Michelle Guillemard will teach a workshop on?how to translate complex neuroscience?into simple sensible messages.

Information about the triad challenge and our invited speakers is available here:?Neuroscience Coaching Network

Please note:?Membership enrolments close MIDNIGHT Saturday 19th February (US Pacific)?and the NCN will only accept new members?once?in 2022. Our next intake is planned for February 2023.

We offer a range of payment options... scroll to the FAQs for AUD, USD, EURO and 6-month payment plan options.
