Where Is My Dream Job?

Where Is My Dream Job?

Dream Job..
What is it?
Some think it's about earning a fat paycheck or being offered great benefits;
others believe it involves having good work-life balance, the ability to help
others, or the chance to make the world a better place.

Everyone's definition is different because no two dreams are ever the same.

How to use Heart Mind Tuning's "YAY!I love it!" Method to Move Forward Confidently

A lot of individual clients come to me not knowing what to expect from coaching or having struggled mightily to find the right coach or strategic partner. The notion of paying for coaching feels unnatural to them. Specially in cases when they have lost their source of income and are in transition. This is what I hear:" I need to find another job, I just got fired, my boss does not support me,I am always angry, they passed me over for promotion, etc."

They are not sure if their investment in working with me will pay off or not. Simply said they are skeptic of how and why coaching should work. Yet, they are curious or stuck or overwhelmed and come knock at my door. What I get is a SUSPECT not even a PROSPECT!

To them: They don't know what coaching really means and does. The coaches seem to charge an arm and a leg. The idea that talking to someone every two weeks can make dreams come true feels so esoteric!

So if you feel the same: You are NOT alone.

As you can see I was in corporate IT world and when I first started to look into hiring a coach, I felt the same. I interviewed a good number of people before I settled into the idea of hiring one. I clearly remember how my thinking brain had ALL sorts of reasons that I should not hire a coach. There was no way in heaven that I could think talking to this person can be useful. Well, it happens that at that time I was in a critical condition in my life in a way that I could not rely that much on my thinking brain. For some reason, I was able to see that I needed some solution above and beyond what my thinking abilities could offer so I relied on how I felt! In my heart, I was feeling hiring a coach is the right thing to do.

But if you are reading this , the chances are that you are NOT in the same dire straits I was. You are simply evaluating the options that can move you forward.

Here's a neuroscience-based exercise I use to get a different part of your brain into the mix and unleash you from the calculating brain!

For this exercise, you want to be ready to jot down ideas. Don't overthink, just loosen up and write down what comes to mind, that's part of the magic of this exercise.

The only rule is you have to write SOMETHING down. You really need that pen and paper handy to get going. There is no skipping a question and telling yourself you'll figure it out later. ;)

1. Think of a time in your career when you were TRULY ENJOYING doing "what you do" and it was a true Yay! I love it moment-- write down enough to remind you what that situation was. You want to immerse yourself in that experience.

This could be any moment in your career: while working with a particular client or in a company that made you feel you are in a place that feels right. It could be a moment at your job when you got acknowledged for your contribution or achievement. Doesn't matter what it was, what matters is that it was a moment where your cup was full, you were flooded with positive energy and the awareness that you had provided great value and it felt great.

2. What was your role? What did you provide or offer that led to such a result?

There is no scientifically correct right answer here!

It could be a project you enjoyed, a team you really clicked with, a company you felt that it was the right fit. Something about how you performed in that job felt good.It could be some technical expertise you were able to offer, it could be something more intangible, such as the trust of clients that you earned. Just take a stab at distinguishing what it was that you provided that made it possible for that Yay! I love it moment.

3. Now that you've connected from your perspective with that experience...I want you to put yourself on the other side and write down what you think THE COMPANY, THE CLIENT would say you provided that caused the Yay! I love it moment.

This is the REAL shift. People tell me what they LIKE or don't LIKE in a job or company but surprising you will see how this simple shift in perspective will allow you to find your right fit because you can now see why that company or client HIRED YOU!

You want to find the RIGHT FIT, don't you? You want to feel you are growing in the new job, don't you? When you immerse yourself in this exercise, you get to see what really clicked for you to have that experience.

It might even give you a clue as what you need to develop in yourself to have that experience!

Neuroscience has an explanation for how this phenomenon happens, and for those who are mesmerized by how brain works as I am (little known fact: I'm a Certified Neuroscience based Mindfulness and Emotional Intelligence Coach and Educator), I'll provide a note below with a bit more brain stuff.* Anyway, one of the reasons the answer to this trigger is so important is that you want to be as IDEAL a client as possible when you believe you are in the right interview or job!

Finding Yay! I love it moments is an awesome experience so let your mind pour out. Now, this exercise might lead you to some ideas but you are not sure where to go, how to start, or more importantly how to stay focused.

That is where I come in.

I help you FIND Yay! I love it MOMENTS, CONNECT WITH THEM and INTEGRATE the two neural networks in your brain to move this simple exercise to RESULTS. We move from THOUGHTS, EMOTIONS, and DESIRES into ACTION.

* Here is the part I explain about the brain:

Yay! I love it moments give you goose bumps.Goose bumps start in the part of the body called the sympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system sends signals from your brain to your skin. Goose bumps usually happen when you get cold or feel certain powerful emotions, such as fear or awe.

In brain we have parts called: The Default Mode Network (DMN) and the Task Positive Network (TPN). These are two distinct neural networks in the brain .

When we let our brain rest meaning when we are awake but our brain is not used for tasks, The DMN is what's playing. When we're daydreaming, imagining the future, taking on someone else's perspective, that sort of thing, we are engaging DMN. The TPN is all about getting stuff done! That's the network that's in gear when you're focused on DOING things, figuring things out, making plans to achieve goals, focusing on accomplishing a task.

Now the funny part is that only one of these networks can be activated at one time. And they're both important -- you want to be able to get to the unpredictable insights and ideas and inspiration, but you also want to get things done! The trick is to be integrated, to dance between the two. The magic of The Yay! I love it Method is in having you activate the DMN to optimize what you expect and experience in TPN.
