Where Most Companies Are Going Wrong With Facebook Ads
Last week, I was invited to the Facebook Advertising event in Philadelphia. Although I wasn't presenting, I wanted to go meet the people who could get me on stage for the next event. My goal is to share my experiences in growing businesses using Facebook's advertising platform in conjunction with other online marketing strategies that I implement for my clients (Lead Generation, PPC, Google AdWords, SEO, Email Marketing, Automation, Mobile Website development, etc).
Though I appreciated the invite, I was shocked at how much FB missed the mark with their presentation and training. The audience was ready to learn, but the presentation was so elementary. It took them 2 hours to even mention the tracking pixel, which is the most critical piece to the Facebook Advertising puzzle.
You see, the Facebook tracking pixel allows marketing geeks like me to gain insight into every aspect of the campaign. I can see which visitors are becoming leads for my clients and which leads are becoming paying clients. I can even retarget the people who visit the page but don't buy anything.
Without the FB tracking pixel, these businesses are flying blind and potentially wasting thousands of dollars with zero insight into the ROI they are generating (or not generating).
Next, the Facebook team barely even touched on the importance of conversion tracking. Again, this is a crucial step to track the ROI of EVERY PENNY you invest into your ads.
If you don't set up the tracking code or monitor conversion events correctly, the old adage still rings true "50% of my advertising isn't working, I just don't know which half."
My goal is to show to my clients exactly which part of their marketing is producing the biggest results. That way we know which campaigns to double down on in the future and which ads we should cancel altogether.
To top it off, the presenters didn't mention why you need to send your traffic to specific landing pages rather than the homepage of your website. This is a huge mistake that most companies make.
They avoided coaching the audience on building Facebook Ad funnels, leveraging marketing automation sequences to nurture leads, or using messenger chat bots to aid your marketing efforts. All of these advanced strategies improve the performance of campaigns for big brands AND small local businesses.
As frustrated as I was, it also made me feel great!
I realized that the strategies and tactics that my team is implementing for our clients are so far ahead of what Facebook is even teaching right now. That makes me proud of what we are doing. That makes me sleep better at night (aside from my newborn twin daughters waking me up at random intervals).
You see, I'll take this as a challenge from Zuckerberg and his crew at Facebook to push even harder to stay ahead of the curve and create insane results for my clients.
