Pretty Boss Sipping Resilience High Tea

Where I've been & Where I'm going...

Hey y'all and welcome to Q2..it feels like this year is flying by and I don't exactly know how I feel about that! Last week, I posted about my journey and this challenge that I feel like many entrepreneurs face - ego vs. humility - and that's truly the theme of my personal and professional life.

As I like to say, judge your momma and not me - I'm real about the good and bad, ok! LOL! Where I've been? Busy. Where I'm going? Busier. But what is that phrase - nobody cares, work harder? Eh...if you've read this far, I know you do care and I will find ways to work smarter (not harder) each day. Here's my thoughts on resilience - and I can't wait to hear yours!

This weekend, I was honored to attend and speak at Rosalyn Stevens 's event all about women and our lessons on resilience. I had the pleasure of meeting so many powerful women - from marketers just getting started, to women who have been there, done that. One of my favorite connections were Demetria Ali who I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with - it was so interesting hearing from a woman I aspire to be like (poised, knowledgeable, and fun) but also pour into young women who think the same of me. The way Rosalyn and her team of women curated the high tea was very welcoming, after all we know how snooty tea parties can be. We got REAL REAL and it gave me a chance to remember that I've been in a thick season of resilience and I should probably share more of this in real time. After all, you never know who your story is reaching (well, technically - I'm an analyst haha!).

At this rate, relisience is like my entrepreneurial superpower, helping me navigate the ups and downs of building a business.

So, What's Resilience All About?

Ralisha Hawkins eloquently described at the event, resilience is like a slinky - it's not just about bouncing back from setbacks (although that's a big part of it). It's about having a "bring it on" attitude toward challenges, learning from your mistakes, and rolling with the punches when things don't go as planned.

Why Does Resilience Matter for Us Entrepreneurs and Founders?

Think of resilience as your entrepreneurial armor:

  • Uncertainty Buster: Let's face it, entrepreneurship is full of surprises (some good, some not so good). Resilience helps you stay calm and focused when the unexpected happens.
  • Failure Fuel: Every entrepreneur stumbles at some point. Resilience helps you turn those stumbles into stepping stones, learning and growing along the way.
  • Change Chameleon: The business world is constantly evolving. Resilience helps you adapt and even thrive in the face of change.
  • Motivation Machine: Building a business is hard work. Resilience keeps you going when the going gets tough.

What does resilience look like to me?

Here's a few tips I shared to the women of the Pretty Boss community:

  • Know Thyself: Understand your strengths, weaknesses, and what makes you tick. Get in therapy if you can - it doesn't have to mean sitting on someone's sofa once a month like I do, but it can also mean riding horses, meditating, praying and so much more. Have two way dialogue with someone who can guide you in a healthy manner and equip you with the tools needed to have a powerful self-discover journey.
  • Build Your Crew: Surround yourself with supportive people who lift you up. This includes your business' vendors and clients, too. One of my biggest assets in my business are my support team - my administrative assistant, attorney, accountant, wealth advisor, and operations manager are what I call my Dream Team and when my slinky is being tugged and twisted, they allow me the space to bounce back better than ever.
  • Automate As Much As Possible: Find ways to manage the things you know how to do, but may not be able to do it well enough or fast enough. For me, my calendar gives me anxiety, so tools like Calendly help not only efficiently book meetings, but also schedule work flows to help me decompress from them such as surveying my meeting attendees, sending reminder emails for booked calls, and even allowing folks to pay for my time ahead of potentially wasting my time ;)

I'm not perfect...although my makeup was #perioddd

I know I'm not alone in this founders journey. Many successful entrepreneurs have faced (and conquered) major obstacles through sheer determination and a never-give-up attitude. This is where my ego challenges my humility, and then my humility challenges my ego - and all for the betterment of my founder's journey.
