OKRs, SMART goals, goal trees, KPI trees, & 4 disciplines of execution (leading activities & lagging indicators) are wonderful tools to define what you want to accomplish & how to measure. System analysis is actually measuring the cause and effects of how you have it set up.
This article is focused on where to intervene into your business challenge using a systems approach. It takes some time to digest the approach but the major difference is in analyzing how your business actually functions.
Feedback loops are one area that I find the most intriguing because it is what you reward and punish in your org. In the end it all comes down to leadership being aware of how their company actually functions beyond the mission, vision, and core value statements
As a systems thinker and environmental scientist, Donella Meadows identified 12 "leverage points" that can be used to intervene in a system and achieve the desired outcomes. These leverage points are powerful tools for understanding how to create positive change in complex systems.
