Where I Aim is Where I (MIGHT) Hit
The other day, I had a real challenge, and I had to reach out to someone for a solution. (Thank you, Joe Terry, for the great answer, and thanks, Kerry O'Shea Gorgone for the recommendation to talk with Joe.) It deals with the (woo woo) topic of "manifestation."
I said to Joe: I'm having trouble with manifesting (the act of believing and vocalizing my intentions and how I hope the universe meets me). I told Joe I'm manifesting around "wealth" (and I mean this as more than money, but also money. I'm not feeling wealthy, I told Joe. So how do I manifest in that direction anyway?
Joe reminded me that maybe I need to adjust my intention. (I did).
Where I Aim is Where I Might Hit
The goal isn't to manifest about wealth, Joe reminded me. He said that wealth (the way I'm defining it) is a byproduct of service. Now, I've spent my entire life preaching the importance of serving others. I get the mindset. But I'd let it fall away in some weird and esoteric ways when it came to how I was structuring my days, my business, and my beliefs
Don't forget: I'm in a new role where I serve a CEO directly, a Board of Directors and the executive leadership team indirectly, and the 500+ employees of the company as kind of a scout. But when I took this role on, HOW I perceived my service changed dramatically. Only, I hadn't really sat to think much about that. (This is where I admit that my meditation practice is way off.) Of course, wealth wasn't easy to manifest. I was aiming all over the place and hadn't really thought about my target.
Imagine you're the best archer in the world. You've got an incredible bow, some straight arrows, and an environment where wind isn't a factor. You've taken over 10,000 practice shots and now you simply have to do it again by aiming at the target when it counts.
Question: if you aim at that target, and then decide to aim at a different target at the same time, will you hit a bullseye?

Not unless you're a trick archer, I guess. No. You have to aim at a target to hit it. And the moment you let your aim falter or blur out or try to contemplate more than one target (at a time), the more certain it is that you'll fail.
I can shoot at a hundred targets, but only if I shoot one arrow at one target 100 times.
Wealth Surrounds Me
This is my personal view. My personal perception of "wealth" is that I'm capable of choosing to do the things I want to do when I want to do them.
At the simplest "money" level, it means I can go out to eat sometimes and not really fret about the bill. At the much more "universe-shifting level," it means that I must seek to serve at every level and find ways to stack my service until I'm positively overflowing with acts of service and the help of others.
And to do that: to serve all the time means that I have to be an even better steward of my time, that I have to be very clear on which targets I aim at, and that I have to aim where I can deliver the best possible value for the most possible people.
Joe gave me one other reminder. He said to re-read brother Bob Burg's The Go-Giver. That reminded me to actually just track down Brother Bob directly and catch up with him, which is a target of being helpful. Just like I'm aiming at. 100 times.
What do YOU think?

3 å¹´Hi Chris! Thanks for once again putting something into words (manifesting?) something I've been pondering the last few weeks. I've never been one to pray for stuff for myself, and the idea of meditating to manifest something like "wealth" feels awkward. Instead I'm working on figuring out "where do I fit in?" and "where can I provide the most value?". And it does seem like a good time to revisit "The Go-Giver." Have a great day!

3 å¹´Fabulous title. There is a heap of learning in those few words alone, let alone in the article. Super stuff.

3 年I’m into all that manifesting stuff, yes. I choose to take a pretty analytical approach to it, and it checks out.
