Where will the Hemp Derived Cannabinoid customers go?

Dateline: 3-2-24

Yesterday it was cold, today its raining and tomorrow, it will be Sunny with above average temperatures, that my friends is Middle Tennessee weather in March. As I feared, all of the plum and pear trees are starting to bud and waiting to get whacked by a hard freeze. So I’m putting out positive vibes because The Old Hemp Farmer loves picking fruit from a tree. Once again this morning, a cup of organic Indonesian coffee is being matched with Costa Rican Cacao fortified with Tennessee homegrown CBD/THC extract and being enjoyed greatly. So folks let us drift into this week’s musings on the Cannabis Business with a question. If Tennessee and a handful of other states implement strict laws against the scourge known as “Hemp Derived Cannabinoids” and things like THCa Flower, D8/D9 THC carts are no longer available, where will the the hundred of thousand of customers of these products go? So far, The Old Hemp Farmer has noticed that most of the angst that been shown by the Hemp Derived Cannabinoid Industry and by politicians and law enforcement that feel compelled to protect the general public from the dangers of an unregulated Cannabis marketplace. Especially now that a huge amount of people have brought back the scare tactics of “Reefer Madness”, by simple substituting Hemp Derived Cannabinoids for “Reefer” or “The Devil’s Weed”.

But in general no one is talking about the customers of Hemp Derived Cannabinoids. You see, a very unique Cannabis situation is starting to unfold in several states and Tennessee will be in the thick of it, starting July 1st 2024. Where will the hundred of thousand folks in Tennessee, that have been buying either THCa Flower or D8/D9 carts go once are they are no longer available? What makes this situation so unique is that a hundred years ago there was a steady drumbeat against Marijuana by politicians and folks like William Randolph Hearst’s “Yellow Journalism” that told stories of white women smoking “Jazz Cigarettes” and cohabiting with Black Men. So when Marijuana laws were enacted, it was generally supported by the majority of Americans. Well, this isn’t 1937 and most of the people in United States think that Recreational Marijuana should be legal. That’s especially true in Tennessee, where polling shows about 58% of the adult population is in favor of legalization. In 1937, there weren’t millions of folks in the United States using marijuana on a regular basis, flash forward to 2024 and there are millions of daily users of Cannabis in one form or another. Probably about 8% of the adult population of Tennessee uses Cannabis on a regular basis and since there are about 7 million in the state that means over 500,000 folks. Let’s for the sake of argument, let’s say that over half of those folks were legally buying their Cannabis products over the counter. Add in tourists, and you got hundreds of thousands of people that have gotten use to buying high THCa Flower in Tennessee, that come July 1st, 2024 will now be illegal. So what does happen when a highly unpopular Cannabis law gets implemented? This is eerily similar to 1920, when a very unpopular alcohol prohibition law was enacted nationally. This resulted in the “Roaring 20’s” producing curious things like “Speak Easies”, “Bootleggers” and gangsters like Al Capone. In 1920, folks had to change where they could buy alcohol and the type of the alcohol, they could buy. So now in 2024, how will the folks that want to buy THCa flower or D8/D9 carts change their purchasing habits? In the next year, the loophole that is the 2018 Farm bill, will be changed Federally by a new Farm bill and/or by individual states that will do it themselves. Once again, passing Cannabis laws won’t solve any problems, it only make criminals. If the state of Tennessee wants to start incarcerating everyone that has been consuming high THCa Flower legally, they’d need another 200,000 or more jail cells. One thing is for sure, the main benefactor of Tennessee’s new “Cannabis Prohibition” will be the Black Market. The Old Hemp Farmer can assure you that in a scant few months after HB0304/SB0378 is enacted, there will almost as much THCa flower being sold in Tennessee, as before. Where and how, I’m not really sure but it’s a law of physics, all vacuums are eventually filled. Anyway as always, Hemp Dawgs and Hemp Puppies keep one eye on the weather and the other eye on the market.

That’s what people don’t understand some people just don’t want real weed and that was it’s purpose and intentions! We’ve got to come to that understanding to equalize the market!
