Where The Hell Did My Facebook Friends Go?

Are your friends randomly being unfriended on Facebook?  You're not alone.

It seems as if Facebook doesn’t like your relationships.

I didn’t really think much of it when I realized that some of my “friends” were no longer my “friends” on Facebook.  I just figured they couldn’t handle the heat of a little controversy in my posts.  God knows I’m not bashful when it comes to politics on Facebook.

It didn’t even hit me that something was up until some of my friends started giving me a hard time for allegedly “unfriending” THEM.

Let’s be clear about something.  I rarely, if ever, unfriend anyone. 

I chalked it up to a fluke.

But then my wife noticed it too – she started receiving Facebook friend requests from people who she had never unfriended.  And considering that she barely posts on social media, it’s hard to believe anyone would part ways with her on the social media monster (unless, of course, they were ticked by MY political rants).

I mentioned it in passing to a few members of my team.  Low and behold…they’ve all been running into the same issue.  Friends randomly disappearing. 

And how about this?  A couple of weeks ago, some woman who I’ve never heard of writes THIS on my wall: 

“Kyle: I have received notification that you have accepted my friend request.  Problem is, I did not send you one.  I only use FB for close friends and family members.  Since I don’t know you, I am going to ‘unfriend’ you.  Nothing personal.”

I was flabbergasted.  And so, in my typical sarcastic style, here was my response:

“This might be the most confusing post on the face of the planet.  You sent ME a friend request – as you noted above – then posted that you were going to unfriend ME!  I think, perhaps, you should avoid playing on Facebook after cocktails…”

The good news is that I scored lots of “likes”.  Apparently people enjoy not JUST my good looks, but my quick wit.

In my search for answers…I found nothing official from Facebook.  But I DID find lots and lots of other people who seem to have had friends mysteriously vanish and other new friends mysteriously appear.

Perhaps it’s just me…but I don’t think so.  What about you?  Any surprise comings and goings of friends?
