Where the heart belongs...

It's been a while since I posted some thoughts about work, life, and the pursuit of happiness...

September is not a good month for me, in a few days, I will be celebrating the life and departure of my beloved mother. She died way too early, on the operating table, undergoing a procedure I am now all too familiar with (having experienced it myself three times!). It's been 4 years, and it feels like yesterday (I am attributing this "blank void timeless gap" to Covid). Interesting to see how the brains become all foggy when facing tragedy, and as a coping mechanism. I think of all the entrepreneurs and thinkers of my generation (the early 70s) who are entering their big "5-0" years, surely looking back at their professional lives and thinking: "Damn that was quick"! There is no fog in that realization...Yet, most of us aspire to believe that the best years of our lives have yet to come. But I digress...

The SaaS, business development, and revenue management world has had some monumental changes, just considering the last 5 years. I am baffled by the speed, and new dynamics in play. In many ways, humanity is already experiencing a dramatic shift, and am not all too convinced for the better. A few thoughtful influencers are going as far as saying that AI has already taken over control of our minds, and our ability to truly experience what it means to be human! I mean look around: 80% of people around you (including your inner circle) are glued to their phones...(yes, am guilty of it too). I look back, growing up in incredible countries such as Madagascar, Kenya, Mauritius, and Seychelles, and I am so grateful for these mesmerizing years when slowing down, and "being in the now" was still possible. Thankfully I am still able to do that when am back to the house I designed and built in Baja (www.casadelazul.com), just 4 years ago!

In a few days, I will be undergoing a pretty serious (6 to 8 hours am being told) heart surgery, to keep the "ticker ticking", and change the course of my life story (the outcome was far grimmer a couple of decades ago). I have embraced all of that Drama, and anxiety, and always kept my "legendary glass-half-full attitude". The bottom line is that I am extremely lucky to have lived 10, or 20 lives (from Africa to Asia, Europe, and LATAM), and still be going strong with a deep sense of appreciation. When confronted with pain and tough choices, there is always a silver lining and many learnings. I wrote a letter to my 2 sons with some pretty down-to-earth principles revolving around what it means to be human, and why I expect them to live a big life! Hopefully, they won't read that letter for a few more decades, yet I feel comfort in knowing it's there.

Bottom Line: As we go through life, I am a firm believer that the human heart will naturally seek kindness, compassion, and peace. As we age, we discover that there is more purpose and satisfaction in giving back. I started www.saascro.io with a terrible business model in mind. Give practical, hands-on tested GTM advice (to SaaS businesses looking to scale), for nothing in return, but perhaps (certainly not a requirement) a donation to help fund a Baja Mexico-based Charity. The only caveat is that the business must have achieved at least $5M ARR.

Looking forward to October,
