Where Has the Human Touch in Recruitment Gone?

As someone deeply involved in HR and talent acquisition for over 25 years, I’ve noticed a concerning trend – the increasing lack of communication from recruiters and organizations with applicants. It’s disappointing, and I’m sure many can relate.
Let me be clear: applicants aren’t asking for the world. They just want to know where they stand. Did I make it to the next stage? Should I keep waiting? Or have you decided to move forward with another candidate? These are simple, basic questions – yet far too often, applicants are left in limbo for weeks, even months, or worse, they never hear back at all.
This isn’t complicated. A simple, "Thank you for your interest and time, but we’ve decided to pursue other candidates at this time," is enough. It shows respect, acknowledges the effort applicants put in, and, more importantly, safeguards your brand’s integrity and reputation.
Failing to close the loop with candidates is not just a missed courtesy – it’s eroding trust in your organization. People talk. Your future hires will hear how you treat applicants today. The truth is, it’s not difficult to show respect and responsibility in this process, but it does require a commitment to human decency.
We need to bring back the human touch in recruiting. If we want to build strong relationships with talent, it starts with clear, respectful communication at every stage – even when the answer is no.
Recruitment isn’t just about filling positions; it’s about building trust and relationships. When we prioritize human connection, we leave a lasting positive impression on candidates and strengthen our brand. Behind every resume is a person deserving of respect and communication.
By bringing back the human touch, we not only find the best talent but also uphold our integrity in the process.
Great read - yes, sometimes we forget through a pile of applications that there are people behind those applications who aspire to do more and be more. All of us are taught to follow up on X things. This should also be applied in that equation!?

2 个月Well said and I completely agree. Something as simple as an acknowledgement is so easily lost in our busy day to days, yet it only takes a moment. That moment which can have such a big impact on others, and the organization.
