Where is the GOLD in your business?

At the time of writing this article, I have just finished up my last Ultimate 48 Hour Author workshop in Los Angeles, the 5th one on this current tour.

After launching in America in May 2016, it was a steep learning curve with many decisions made with my heart and not my head which lead to several costly lessons. As much as America was never a money-making exercise, it was a challenge dealing with a different culture, different venues and different client behaviours and we were very happy to cover all of our costs for the trip.

2018 was intended to be a gap year in our push into The USA market as we had almost reached our perfect client number in Australia alone, but then my husband decided he wanted to take our son to Wrestlemania!

Like all business owners, I immediately saw the opportunity to make it a business trip as there was a gap in our event schedule in Australia so an American tour was then strategically organised around our New Orleans visit for the wrestling.

We decided on a 5 city tour including 3 events in Florida, and one in Arizona and California. We engaged our Facebook Ads manager to initiate our campaign that has worked so well in Australia these past 3 years and the event registrations began to roll in, but not in the numbers we were expecting.

As always, we adjusted copy, made funnels changes and did everything we could to get good numbers at all 5 events but this time around we didn't get the numbers we accounted for so the workshops were a lot more intimate than recent events in Australia and UAE which proved to be a huge win for our attendees.

Excluding this Los Angeles workshop that we won't know the final results for the next 48 hours, we converted at the same percentage as we do in Australia.....but at a lot higher cost and effort which proves once again that 90% of the time the gold in your business is in your own backyard.

It is fabulous to step out of your comfort zone, take a new challenge and explore opportunities that might explode your business profitabilities yet ask yourself, at what cost?

For those of you that travel for your business, you will know it can be tiring, lonely and frustrating (as well as exciting) while I had my husband and son with me on this tour, we did leave our two young daughters at home with my mum looking after them so we have missed them greatly.

With social media, the world is a much smaller place and while business Internationally is a great credibility and social proof for your potential clients back home, I have realised that Australia is where the GOLD is in my business and I am super excited to be back on home soil for a few months before our 4 week family holiday in Thailand in June/July.

There is nothing I enjoy more is seeing my new authors work through the Ultimate 48 Hour Author blueprint that they have learned as they go about creating their first book that will change themselves, and their readers' lives.

Hi Nat, thanks for a great blog. Understanding where the gold is in your business is priceless! It does not always mean that the grass is golden on the other side!
