Where To Go From Here (When You Feel You’ve Lost Your Way)

I love a goal. It gives me a sense of direction, satisfaction when I achieve it and, even more so, enjoyment from the challenge of working out how to get there.
And there are different moments when you might want to revisit your goals and (re-)define what ‘success’ actually looks like for you .
For example, at professional milestones – you’ve been promoted (or been passed over), you’ve spent x years in a role, or you’re just not feeling challenged any more – and at personal milestones – you’ve become a parent, your children have moved out of the nest, or you’re nearing retirement age.
One of those moments, I think, is when you’ve achieved what you set out to achieve.
For years, I wanted to become a published author – I’ve now published three books.
I’ve always wanted to live by the sea – I now have a gorgeous view of the English Channel from my study window.
I craved the freedom and flexibility to manage my work around my lifestyle – I’ve been able to do this for a decade, initially through travelling between contracts, then taking my work with me around the work, and most recently working hours that fit around my children’s nursery and school schedules.
I did a HUGE amount of personal reflection and goal setting after leaving my corporate marketing job and in the years that followed – but that first step is now more than 10 years ago.
Now, let’s be clear: I am not saying that I have achieved everything there is to achieve, and obviously there is a lot more I could do…
Rather, this is an interesting moment to take stock and reflect on where to go from here.
Sometimes, this is a great moment to enjoy what you have created and coast a little (shock! horror!).
We don’t always need to be push-, push-, pushing towards the next goal.

But, at other times, you might be feeling a little stagnant as you sense that there is something new brewing – you just don’t know what it is yet.
It’s at those times that you want to take a step back and look at what you’ve done, what you’re doing, and what might be next for you.
And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing recently, as I’ve done a whole lot of exploration both on my own and with expert coaches and mentors who might help me level up in a whole new way.
And that’s what I invite you to do too if, like me, you’re feeling a little unsure as to which direction you want to go.
If that’s you, go ahead and send me a message and we will get a call in the diary to discuss how I can help you figure this out.
Here’s to another level of success – whatever that may look like for you (and to enjoying the process of finding out what it is!).
