Where first impressions really count
Hotel Designs
The go-to for the latest international hotel design news, inspiration, features, opinions and reviews…
Often regarded as the 'heart of the hotel' and typically the first space to greet guests, public areas can make or break a hospitality design — and ultimately a guest's stay. From first impressions to lasting ones, in this edition of The Edit, Hotel Designs is illuminating the projects making their mark on contemporary public space curation (from the likes of Muza Lab and Electric Bowery, Ltd. ), as well as seeking some expert advice on how you can elevate your design.
Hotel Humano – a new barefoot luxury paradise from Grupo Habita
For the outdoor and indoor public areas of the Hotel Humano, architect Jorge Hernandez de la Garza and the team at Plantea Estudio have created a suite of buildings and a design concept that reflect the loose and relaxed spirit of its Mexico-locale.
Palm House brings Iconic Luxury Hotels to the US
Step into Muza Lab's 'Wonderland-esque' visual feast of pink marble, plush velvet and custom Murano glass installations at Palm House's Palm Bar, which sets the hotel's tone straight from the off and promises guests an immersive and conscientiously Floridian escape on the iconic Palm Beach island.
Harnessing the use of light for public areas
The hotel foyer or lobby instantly symbolises the level of quality a hotel sets out to deliver, and bespoke lighting particularly can deliver a unique experience, reinforcing a hotel brand’s concept and appeal and making guests feel instantly welcomed and positive about their stay.
The renaissance of Palazzo Talìa
Originally built in the 16th century, Rome's Palazzo Talìa has operated as an important public (and private) space since inception. In the 21st century, the Palazzo is re-inhabited as a hotel; spearheading the renovation of the public spaces was studiolucaguadagnino, who redressed these areas as stage settings that now narrate the locale's rich history to a contemporary audience.
