While no career is beyond the grasp of economic uncertainty and hardship, there are clear signs that certain careers are heartier than others in times of recession and subsequent layoffs.?
With that being said, you may be wondering which jobs are seeing the most demand right now — or rather, which industries are doing the most hiring.?
“Most in demand also corresponds to the most movement; so this doesn't necessarily mean or correspond to only layoffs happening right now,” said Brittney Swan, executive recruiter and? resume writer. “I am seeing a lot of people, especially teachers, who aren't laid off who want to get into Scrum or LMS.?
Swan says that regardless of someone’s motivation for seeking out a specific career field, in general, the four biggest fields she’s seeing demand in right now are IT , finance , nursing and teaching.??
What Careers Are in Demand?
A great deal of Swan’s statement corresponds to a Linkedin article, where the jobs with the most demand overall were listed.
Here are the roles with the greatest number of Linkedin job posts from Q2 2022:
Here are the top ten roles with the fastest-growing in Q2 2022:?
As you can see from the above lists, tech-themed jobs are a common thread. A recent Nasdaq article speaks to this point, reporting that in the U.S., technology skills are what employers are looking for most. The source states that large companies of 250 or more employees reported the strongest hiring intentions. Employers stress the desire for applicants to have certain soft skills, such as reliability and self-discipline, resilience and adaptability, reasoning and problem-solving, creativity and originality, and critical thinking and analysis.
Offering one more point of reference for what’s going on in today’s job market, here are the top ten fastest-growing occupations from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics . The BLS predicts these jobs will see the highest projected percent change of employment between 2020-30:?

Demisha Jennings, marketing expert and career coach, adds to these lists, stating that she has seen HR rise to the top in recent months as an in-demand field.?
How To Find In-Demand Jobs
“LinkedIn is always going to be my No. 1 pick [for finding jobs],” said Jennings. “That’s going to be your best friend. You can use the job-search function, search hashtags and find new opportunities through your network.”?
Jennings also emphasizes the value of finding a recruiter specific to the career you want to enter, and this is as easy as searching “HR recruiter,” “tech recruiter” or whatever in-demand field you’re interested in and signing up for a few email lists.
Lastly, she adds that outside of Linkedin, a personal favorite for applying while busy during the day is The Mom Project.?
“Every time something new is posted, it comes directly to your email,” said Jennings. “And then you’re able to reply to that in real time as it’s posted. But above all, people need to be active on some kind of job board.”?
Swan contributes to this insight, stating that several in-demand jobs are on government websites as well.?
“No matter what industry you're in, check government and city forums or jobs because the government needs everything from cybersecurity to teachers, to financial admins to truck drivers,” Swan said.
Swan also notes that depending on what kind of company you have your sites set on might determine where you need to look for job openings.?
For example, if you are interested in tech and are set on joining one of the FAANG (refers to the stocks of five prominent American technology companies) companies, Swan says that those positions are going to be indicated regularly. However, she also explains that even if a division goes on a hiring freeze, that division could still be gathering applications until it’s pooled.??
But maybe you are interested in joining a more medium-sized company or a startup. This process could look just a little different.?
“That type of company is going to require more networking, and you're going to have to play around with titles to find these jobs,” said Swan. “For instance the company might use the term data analyst or data management instead of data scientist. Or project management with an account base could be a customer success manager. These types of terms change all the time. But that’s how companies try to mitigate all the applications coming in by wording it in different ways that candidates speak to at that type of level.”?

2 年The jobs I was surprised to see the BLS mention were motion picture projectionists, ushers and wooden model makers.?I believe motion picture projection is largely automated now.?Wooden model makers? I could see model makers for manufacturing. 3-D printing is going to explode and I'm sure add jobs, but not as many because it is automated. I have read that 3-D printing will build homes in one day for people in poor countries devastated by floods or other disasters.

2 年Thanks Helen Harris for continuing to provide us with insights into the dynamic of jobs and careers. Of course you want to be in a field that is growing. At the same time you want to find work that you do well and that you like. It might be helpful to see the intersection of these jobs with sectors/industries that are projected to grow. Some of these jobs might be the economics of the moment. With better pay elsewhere kitchen staff are exploring other areas, thus the need for them. The demand for truck drivers might be specific to the supply chain issues we are dealing with now. With each of these jobs there are lots of associated jobs. All the tech jobs on the lists need support. A tech company needs people to sell the technology, manage the technology, hire and manage staff, pay staff, manage compliance, arrange for benefits and run the physical plant, which could include data centers. Demographics are in favor of younger job seekers. There are fewer people entering the workforce to replace those leaving the workforce.. Teachers can retire after 25 - 30 years. There are many school districts now clambering for teachers, if that is your interest.
