Almost everyone is afraid of something. For young children it may be the boogie man who lives in their bedroom closet, for a teenager it may be not getting the right date to the prom. For most people, the things to be afraid of multiply with age. I remember being fearful when my kids started to drive and a good portion of that fear boiled down to remembering how irresponsible I was when I was their age! There never was an issue and they always made it home safe.
The reality is fear is a conversation in your head about what could go wrong. This is a conversation you created. This is a conversation you reinforce on a moment-to-moment basis. Working from a place of fear means you only consider only what can go wrong with only has fleeting moments considering what can go right. The human brain is designed to make you right whenever possible so the more focus you place on something, the more likely the outcome. This works for both a positive and a negative outcome.
I work from the what can go right point of view while managing the what can go wrong reality and then handle those items on an immediate basis. Urgency matters! This is not about telling yourself everything will be fine and then moving on. This comes down to paying close attention to outcomes and controlling what you can control. When my kids started driving, I set a reasonable curfew and it was enforced. Violations had immediate consequences with the intent that those consequences served to prevent irresponsible behavior. I was fortunate but not lucky and there is a difference.
If you are having an issue that generates the fear emotion its important to understand that fear anywhere creates fear everywhere.
