Where Does The Time Go?
Phil Boyle
Racing Manager at BG Racing Syndicates, delivering fun, friendly and affordable shared racehorse ownership
I logged on to draft a BG Racing newsletter and realised that it is over two months since I posted one! Please be assured that my shareholders have received many communications in that time, but my apologies for the lack of public postings. I will try to do better.
With such a long gap between communications, there is obviously plenty to tell you about.
Dynamic Kate
Dynamic Kate has been back on the racecourse. She was a fine third at Ludlow on reappearance. She has had bouts of stiffness in a hind leg joint in the early part of the year and so she was not worked too hard at home to ensure that she got to the races in one piece. For that reason, we were delighted that she ran so well as we would expect her to step forward on that form in the future. She was a little stiff in the days after the race, but she seems to have recovered and she is starting to step up her work again.
We will look to target Kate at another race in a couple of weeks. We have not made a definitive plan yet, but there are not that many suitable options in the the first half of June and a race at Fontwell (where she won twice last summer) on Friday 16th looks an obvious one to consider.
Sajwaan
Sajwaan has not been the most fluent mover since we bought him and we decided to give him a couple of weeks of walking and trotting to try to teach him to stride out a bit better. That went well and so we decided to give him another couple of weeks more and as a result he has not run since finishing a close-up 6th at the end of March.
He is back in good order now.?You would still not describe him as a good mover, but he is certainly striding out with a lot more freedom in his work and Michael Attwater (his trainer) is very happy with him. The?intention is to enter?him to run at Brighton next Friday and hopefully we will see the benefit of his time off.
New Filly
I am bringing into BG Racing from 1st July and who in time will replace Dynamic Kate.?This daughter of Milan?and Beech Lodge is a 5-year-old unraced filly who will be leased from Neil for at least two years and she is a full sister to a filly who has won at Grade 2 level over fences.
She will debut?in the Autumn for three or four starts, before a winter break.?She will then return to action in the Spring of 2024 for a further three or four races before renewal on 1st July 2024.??
I am planning a shareholder visit to the yard in July or August so that all shareholders can see their new horse and we will run a shareholder competition to name her so we will use that to announce the winning name.
Costs of training and racing mean that I have had to price shares at £390 per 1% share.?In the interest of trying to sell more shares, I will sell 2% for £750 and reduce my admin fee to do so.?I will of course still apply discounts to 5% and 10% shareholders (even if that shareholding is split between this filly and Sajwaan) and so shares for those people will be £360 per 1% (for 5%ers) and £330 per 1% (for 10%ers) respectively.

Racehorse Syndicates Association Golf Day
I will have a team of four representing BG Racing at the RSA Golf Day. Whether we will be able to retain the trophy we won last year is doubtful but we will give it a go!
Inside The Rails
We just released the June episode of Inside The Rails which features an interview with Rebecca Davies from Arena Racing about their syndicate lounge rollout.?We have already enjoyed visiting the one at Lingfield a couple of times and will probably get to see the one at Brighton next week!
The May episode of the podcast was a really interesting one, with Daniel and Claire Kubler discussing some of the science that they use to support their training of horses. It is well worth a listen if you missed it.
You can check out the podcast on all podcast platforms, just search for "Inside The Rails".
Winners From Our Stables
Neil Mulholland had several winners in April but has had a poor run of form in recent weeks. It has been good to see Michael Attwater having several winners in May including a couple from Come on John. Hopefully, both will have a good summer and I will be able to mention their successes here!
