Where Does Life's Purpose Come From?

Where Does Life's Purpose Come From?

For most people, discovering their purpose in life is far from a eureka moment in which they suddenly, like a jolt out of the blue, know what their purpose in life is. More often than not, we discover our purpose by living our lives, typically learning by way of trial and error. This includes the willingness to move beyond our comfort zone and try new things. The longer we continue to do the same things the same old ways, the harder it will be to try, let alone learn anything new, including a life purpose.

As tempting as it may be, it just won’t work to try to duplicate someone else’s purpose, expecting to do the same things they do in order to feel as fulfilled and happy as they appear to be. As an individual, you are a unique combination of personal attributes, talents, experience, and other factors that distinguish you from everyone else on planet Earth. This unique combination, which defines who you are, also represents the pool of resources upon which you will draw in defining and living your life purpose.

Obviously, it’s essential that your life purpose is perfectly aligned with your true authentic self.

The Evolution of Your Life Purpose

Questions about our life purpose or meaning of life may arise at any time. Even so we seem to become more aware of them during times of transition or crisis—a career change, personal loss, or disruptive move.

?Realistically, our life purposes are constantly evolving. What you find meaningful at one stage of your personal life may not be the same in a year, two years, or even five years from now. That’s OK! Life is full of surprises, and we all have different paths to follow.

?The key to discovering and living your life’s purpose is to stay open to your own personal growth and evolution. Be willing to take risks, explore new things, allow yourself to fail without feeling like a failure, and be comfortable in the knowledge that your life purpose may change over time. Only you can define what your life purpose is. And it will probably take some trial and error to find it out.?

However, by taking the time to discover what makes you uniquely you and then living it, you can create a life that is meaningful and rewarding.

This is the secret to a fully alive life: to reframe our life questions over and over.
