Where Does It Hurt? The Unsolved Health Crisis of Successful Women
Halle Eavelyn
Ready for that quantum leap? Been through alll the coaching and still haven’t gotten to where you want? You deserve better. Message me.
Why high-achieving women are facing a tsunami of stress-related illnesses - and what's really behind it
You're the boss (or on your way). You have "team," or "family," or both — you have people relying on you. They see your success. They know you have what they want. You're making bank. You're a woman leading her way in a man's world, forging her own path.
So… where does it hurt?
The Silent Epidemic
According to Deloitte's Women at Work 2023 Global Report, 46% of women report feeling burned out, with women in leadership positions experiencing even higher rates. McKinsey's Women in the Workplace 2023 study similarly found that 43% of women leaders are burned out, compared to 31% of men at their level.
You're supposed to have it all together. Yet the data shows successful women are disproportionately experiencing:
The Body Keeps the Score
The medical community is finally catching up to what many women have known intuitively: our bodies store our stories. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk's groundbreaking research, published in "The Body Keeps the Score," demonstrates how trauma and chronic stress physically alter both brain structure and system functioning.
Harvard Medical School research shows that chronic stress triggers a cascade of physical changes: elevated cortisol levels, increased inflammation, and compromised immune function. The Journal of Neuroscience found in a 2023 study that chronic stress actually changes how our genes express themselves, particularly in regions controlling stress response. Hey, at least there are now studies. ?Women for decades have been putting up with “It’s all in your head, sweetie.” It turns out, it’s not.
The Hidden Cost of Success
The irony is: you're making your money and doing all this work so you can be free. Time free. Money free. Not so you can lock yourself up in a bigger cage of physical symptoms and chronic conditions.
The Mind-Body Connection: What Science Tells Us
The word is a mouthful: Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) – it’s the study of how our thoughts and emotions influence our nervous, immune, and endocrine systems, and it’s revolutionized our understanding of health. Think of PNI as the science of how your stressy meeting causes your tummy ache, or how your childhood experiences might trigger your adult migraines. This field shows us that the brain, immune system, and hormones are in constant communication, like a 24/7 biological group chat.
PNI has exploded in the past decade. Research published in Nature Reviews Immunology demonstrates that psychological stress creates measurable changes in your immune system functioning. Dr. Candace Pert's research shows how neuropeptides - the molecules of emotion - connect every system of the body, creating a literal physical manifestation of our emotional experiences. ?
So to sum all this up, your body is trying to tell you something, and it’s using the language of symptoms to do it.
The Language of Symptoms
Long before modern science caught up, pioneering mind-body researcher Louise Hay documented how our physical symptoms often speak the language of our deepest thoughts and emotions. Her groundbreaking work "Heal Your Body," first published in 1976, suggested that our bodies communicate what our minds need to address: neck pain often reflects stubbornness or inflexibility in our thinking, stomach issues might signal “undigested” anger or fear, and headaches frequently appear when we're invalidating ourselves.
While some dismissed her work as just metaphysical in the 1970s, today's PNI research validates many of her core insights. What Hay described as "thought patterns creating illness," we now understand as the biochemical cascade of chronic stress and emotional trauma physically altering our immune function and inflammatory responses.
This isn't about blame; your body isn't punishing you. Rather, it's attempting to communicate in the only way it knows how. That migraine isn't a failure of your body; its possibly a desperate attempt to tell you when you're overriding your own wisdom. Those chronic digestive issues aren't your weakness, just ?your body's way of saying you've been forcing yourself to "stomach" situations that aren’t supportive.
Finding Your Way Back Home
The path back to yourself isn't about following someone else's wellness checklist. It's not about adding more "should-dos" to your already full plate. Sometimes, the most profound healing starts with simply being seen - really seen - in all your complexity.

The science tells us that recovery is possible. That your body knows the way home. But what does that actually mean for you, the woman who's built her empire while carrying the weight of everyone else's expectations?
It means understanding that:
The most successful women I work with often discover that their deepest healing comes not from adding more practices or protocols, but from finally feeling safe enough to let their guard down. To admit that while they can handle it all, they don't have to. Not anymore.
Beyond Band-Aids: The Power of Transformational Healing
While traditional medicine treats symptoms and even mind-body practices offer relief, transformational coaching works at a deeper level - where your body's patterns first began. Think of it this way: meditation might help you manage your migraines, but transformational work can help you unwind the root cause so thoroughly that your body no longer needs to create them.
This isn't about years of therapy or endless self-analysis. Transformational coaching, especially when it incorporates advanced mind-body techniques, can create rapid, lasting shifts. It's like finding the master switch that turns off multiple symptoms at once.
How is this possible? Because we're not just working with the conscious mind, which only drives about 5% of your behaviors and responses. We're communicating directly with your body's deeper intelligence - the part that orchestrates thousands of biological processes every second without you having to think about them.
When you work with a skilled transformational coach who understands both the science of stress and the language of the body:
Here’s a good way to think about this: Your body has been sending you increasingly urgent text messages, but traditional approaches only help you manage your notification settings. Transformational work helps you finally read and respond to the messages - so your body can stop trying so hard to get your attention.
The Healing Power of Release
Imagine the Family ?Office Manager who had suffered from chronic migraines for 20 years. She'd tried everything from beta-blockers to Botox. In just a few sessions, we uncovered how her headaches were linked to a childhood pattern of not being seen. Once that pattern released, and we made her feel truly valued, her migraines disappeared - not through managing them, but because her body no longer needed to create them to justify getting attention.
Or the startup Founder whose autoimmune condition had her sleeping 12 hours a day just to function. Traditional doctors focused on suppressing her immune system. Through our work together, we discovered how her body had learned to attack itself during years of pushing through exhaustion to prove her worth. Within weeks of addressing this pattern, her energy returned and her blood markers began normalizing.
Consider the SVP whose IBS was so severe she mapped every bathroom in her office building. She'd eliminated countless foods and tried every gut protocol. In our work, we found that her digestive system was literally "holding tight" against old financial fears. As we released those patterns, her system regulated - no restricted diet required.
These aren't anomalies. When you work at the level of root causes:
The Path Forward
The solution isn't just about managing symptoms - it's about understanding the deep connection between our life experiences, our stress, and our physical health. According to the American Institute of Stress, 75-90% of all physician office visits are for stress-related ailments. Yet traditional treatments usually focuses solely on symptom management rather than root causes.
Taking the First Step
If you're sick and tired of being sick and tired, know that transformation is possible. The journey back to health doesn't have to mean reliving trauma or spending years in therapy. Sometimes, the most powerful healing comes from simply understanding the connection between your success journey and your physical symptoms.
The Cleveland Clinic reports that mind-body interventions can reduce chronic pain by up to 40% and stress-related symptoms by up to 50% when properly implemented. Your body knows the way home - it's just waiting for you to stop putting up with saving the world while neglecting yourself.
