Where does that come from?

Curiosity is key to successful coaching and one of my favourite questions is “where does that come from”? ??????

It always makes me think of being a child and wondering why my elderly Auntie, when she ate a fried egg, would put the entire yolk in her mouth, rather than dip something into it. She told me that growing up during wartime, her father taught her that an egg was too precious a source of protein to leave even a smear on her plate. ?????

Self limiting beliefs

Most of us experience self-limiting beliefs, thoughts or behaviours. Often they remind us of something in the past that gives us comfort or security, even though they may no longer be relevant to our lives – or in some cases, might actually get in the way of what we want to achieve. ????????

Recently, I was discussing with a friend strategies for attracting new private coaching clients and why I felt reluctant to use social media. For me, so much social media feels like ‘showing off’, something I had learned not to do as a child. ??????

I eventually realised that this was a completely self-defeating attitude. What helped me to overcome it was another received value from childhood, that it’s good to share something that others may appreciate – such as a valuable coaching insight!????

Someone to listen

One of the greatest benefits of coaching is having someone who can listen to you without judgement, who can help you discover the thoughts and behaviours that might be getting in the way of what you really want to achieve in life. ????????????????
