Where Do YOU See This Relationship Going, Sis?
Candice A. Harper CHt, MFA
Love is your birthright, Sis. Partner - Black Leaders Worldwide??
It's the dreaded question. Some of us ask it unafraid, especially when we've had it with the tire-kickers and are ready for love in an India Arie kinda way.
Many more of us avoid the question. We may think it makes us look desperate or like we're trying to lock a man down. After all "he's supposed to be leading and pushing things along" right?
In a way, I suppose.
Fact is, when we are committed-relationship-minded it is ok to be proactive about advancing things. We just tend to go about it in the wrong way. We don't often know how to do it authentically, or without a spirit of control or attachment.
So, while my main objective is to first help you attract your person, my follow-up priority is to take you through the steps required to create and sustain a new relationship with said person.?
News flash: Once you’ve mastered my technique for meeting your best match and you've connected with someone, the hardest part begins. Your deeper insecurities engage.
Let's talk about it...
We’ve all been there. Everything about him seems so great, he’s checking all the boxes. You can actually feel your heart growing back to its normal size.?
Your fear revs up and suddenly, every behavior triggers questions. Should I open up? Should I let myself get close? Is this it? What did he mean by that text message? Was he trying to tell me something? Why does this feel too good to be true? What if he doesn’t want what I want??
You're whipped into a frenzy and dizzy from the lack of control. Your fear of the unknown is fraying each nerve-ending. You're looking around for safeguards and re-assurances but your past experiences keep clanging around and reminding you that in the end, there is only pain. And so you muster up the courage to ask.
"Where do you see this relationship going?"
And while your inclination to want to know is not wrong, your question is met with an answer that simply adds to your confusion.
You didn't get the answer you were hoping for and now you're discouraged. What was once a hopeful prospect is now withering with your discontent.

Are you tired of getting to this place and no further?
What if I told you that overcoming the hurdle from 'casually getting to know each other' to 'in a committed relationship' starts from the initial connection?
It's true. Most men categorize your potential status in their life very early on and very few have the where-with-all to be upfront about where they rank you. Particularly, when it's anything less than what you might want.
Which is why it can so often feel like you've been strung along.
Cheer up, Love Nugget. You don't have to keep fizzling out at the commitment stage.
In fact, if you're on dating apps, you can start attracting possible partners who see you as a potential wifey before you've even had a conversation. Because what's first and foremost is being visionary about where YOU want to see a relationship go.
It's all in how you craft your profile.
This is why I'm super excited to officially introduce "Hack the Apps", my live 3-day class where I teach black and brown women how to overcome dating app disparities by creating a profile that speaks directly to your person.
Take the quiz and get your results. If your results resonate with you, sign up for the class.
That's all for now!
