Where Do We Go From Here
Today marks 50 years since the assassination of Dr Martin Luther King. I was 10 when it occurred but I remember the night well. I remember Bobby Kennedy telling a stunned crowd the news and the the feeling of sadness that gripped me. and while it would be years later before i fully understood Dr King's imprint on the world I remember the feeling that that the world had changed at that moment. There are times that define us throughout history, that define who we are and moreover who we can become. I believe we are at such a crossroads in history now 50 years later and must determine yet again the people we seek to be. We can continue the slide into the race baiting, saber rattling, finger pointing blue and red society we are fast becoming, or we can decide to return to the God that told us in 2nd Timothy 1:7 " For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." I leave you with Dr King's own words “Courage is an inner resolution to go forward despite obstacles; Cowardice is submissive surrender to circumstances. Courage breeds creativity; Cowardice represses fear and is mastered by it. Cowardice asks the question, is it safe? Expediency asks the question, is it politic? Vanity asks the question, is it popular? But conscience ask the question, is it right? And there comes a time when we must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because it is right.” God bless
