Where do we cast our anchors?
Yolanda S.
A recruiter that is unorthodox in her approach to the recruiting world. A coach with the moto of 'Leaving you better than how I found you'.
The instructor for my Saturday morning step class really gets under my skin. I feel she does not prepare properly and her routines are never a challenge and always more or less the same sequence.
I am a Virgin Active and Discovery Vitality slave. I need my heart rate to spike in order for me to get the points from Vitality and my smoothies or sprint rewards from Virgin Active. This was not happening as the pace was not fast enough.
It was getting so bad that I wanted to dump the classes for good. Thank goodness I always take time out to see what is really bothering me. I know that only I can influence my world and once again had to take a hard look at what I am creating.
Where I cast my anchor.
What I came to realize was that I was focusing on her lack of preparation and not on how I could harness the power to change the environment that I am in. These situations are everywhere and such a fantastic opportunity for expansion. That made me realize I could put my creation muscle to the test. I was the one standing in the way of my own enjoyment of the step class and not the instructor.
I could only identify what I created when one of the other ladies was telling me how irritated she was getting and I told her about the change in my outlook. I asked her where she was casting her anchor and how the suffering then kicked in and affected her external world.
Insight.
If the instructor is not in a good space it does not mean that I cannot change the course of my external world and hopefully influence her world in a good way. Judgment is truly a thing that we need to be mindful of at all times. The trap is when we judge and feel good about our judgment when we judge something as a bad action.

I started having fun again and improvised in a way that I could challenge myself. I knew she was seeing how I was going at my own pace and improvising and incorporating steps that I remember from other classes. That kind of forces her to up her game. We have also been blessed with other instructors who are more creative.
Extend kindness and grace.
What if it is all the instructor can give? I know I am capable of more than judgment. Where are you casting your anchor when you should be lifting it and allowing your sails to catch the wind and sail to a better experience or greater insight?
Try to extend grace and kindness to those that irritate you. If you recognise something in someone it will be in you. You cannot identify something if you are not familiar with its character traits.
Remember.
We are perfect. Even in our imperfections.
