“WHERE do I look when I’m on camera?”
It’s a question I get asked often. Whether you’re putting together a presentation on Zoom, or you’re shooting a video on your phone for social media, not being sure about this stops some people from creating any video content at all.??
The answer depends on the type of device you’re using - a laptop, a cellphone, a dedicated video camera - and I break it all down in this video.
If you’re trying to create a connection with someone through video, it’s important to look into the camera lens. If you do, it will appear as if you’re looking right at your audience when you’re speaking.?
Tips for successful video presentations
While the goal is to look directly into the camera lens, it’s a good idea to watch your videos back to make sure that you are actually looking in the right place. Make it a habit to watch everything you create before you publish it or send it to someone.?
Sometimes we need a reminder. A sticker, like those round reinforcement stickers, can be placed around the camera, or you can put any type of sticker near the camera as a reminder to look in the right place.?
If you’re shooting videos on your phone, you can download a teleprompter app that allows you to import your video script. The words will appear on your phone screen near the camera lens, so as you read, it will look like you’re looking into the correct place.
Points to Ponder
Videos help to create a connection with your audience, and with potential customers and clients. If you were speaking with someone in person, you would look them directly in the eye. This is the equivalent of that.
Take Action
Many of our students and clients are putting together their own shows or are regular guests on other people’s programs.?
