WHERE DID WE GO WRONG?

Is there a problem with our Education system?

We have been struggling to overcome the illiteracy issue, the government has put in place all the measures to ensure we get quality education and reduce the number of non educated people in the society, which truly worked at some level.

Now the question is, are we prepared enough to accommodate those millions of graduates to get proper jobs as well as employ themselves? Most of the youths can now access free and affordable education compared to previous years. Even in the local and remote areas, where education was seen as a hard to get, as well as girls' education has now improved as most of the girls are enrolled to schools.

We have seen several cases in our country, whereby some companies advertise some few positions and millions of applicants fall in. They know for sure that the posts are limited but still they want to try their luck. The worse part is, "If you know nobody, you are less likely to get employed".

Is it that we did not prepare the right mechanisms for the graduates or our education system lacks some essential skills for the graduates to employ themselves after school. We need to think over and over again, as the unemployment problem is becoming very serious especially in the eastern Africa.

Now having a bachelor degree and a master degree is very common here in Tanzania, unlike in the previous years where the country was lacking such graduates in the service, unfortunately the number of graduates has exceeded the available opportunities making it very difficult for the graduates to feel the value of the years they have lost seeking for the certificates.

Even the scams for fake job adverts has increased, whereby they require job seekers to send money for them to assure the availability of the posts. The way the job seekers have given up they are ready to do anything to get the jobs. I am still wondering, what could be the best permanent solution to this. I am still studying to get the clear observations.
