Where did our 11 year-old selves go?

When I hear the way we talk in business I often think ‘how did this happen?’ When did we decide that using terms like ‘executional excellence’ and ‘strategic journey’ would be a good idea?

How did words like operationalisation, visualisation, realisation and actualisation become common language? At what point did we decide to add ‘isation’ to the end of every tenth word we say?

It is only when you hear people talk in a way that is more real, that you realise the absurdity of how we talk in business. I was recently reminded of this when I saw an interview of 11 year-old Sabre Norris on national morning TV. It is hilariously refreshing and when you watch it ask yourself, ‘Where did our 11 year-old authentic self go and should we bring a bit of that back?’
