Where Are The Debt Investors At?

?? If you're like us, you've probably been hearing about venture debt financing a LOT over the past few weeks.

There could be a number of reasons why this alternative form of financing has been picking up. For startups, it can allow them to retain a larger ownership stake in their company as they can raise capital without giving up as much equity as they would in an equity financing round. The cost of capital is lower and for investors, it means lower risk and a chance to diversify their portfolio among other things.?

In the MENA region, venture debt funding had its highest year yet in 2021 as it brought in $266M in funding across 10 deals. However, 2022 saw more deals and more investors than before.

??? Our team recently worked on a Market Map to track venture debt investors in the MENA region and shine a light on which regions contribute the most:

Though VCs remain the most prominent investors, with almost 45% of all investors investing in the region from 2018, Corporates are slowly picking up their pace.

It is vital for corporations to stay ahead in the game of innovation. Over the years, the realization has emerged that investing in external startups can present a mutually beneficial opportunity, for corporates, as opposed to building a technologically innovative setup from scratch.
