Where the Crawdads Sing - Delia Owens (????)

Book 15/52

One of the few fiction titles on my list this year, I was pretty excited to read this book which was 2019’s #1 bestseller. I loved how much depth the author captured with respect to the marsh; the description of the various birds and other marsh creatures, their habits and behaviors and mannerisms described perfectly. I loved how the words painted vivid pictures in my mind; I genuinely love books with such a high visual factor. While the writing is poetic and hauntingly beautiful, I found the plot itself to be quite linear and predictable. That said, the nuances and the careful attention to detail makes up for that. I’d definitely recommend it as a quick and casual read. Sure taught me a bunch about life in the deep marshes of North Carolina.
