Boss: “Can you do this; I have no idea how and you are just good at figuring things out”
Typical Response: “Oh of course, no worries.”
Growth Mindset Response: “Sure, I could help you with this. How about we hop on a call (or the computer) and we can walk through it together. It shouldn’t take much time and then you’ll also know how to do it going forward!”
Workplace hierarchy or structure can absolutely kill the motivation of employees, especially when they are asked to do basic tasks that more senior employees could complete on their own or that an Administrative Assistant could handle. Often these tasks are passed down the chain to the most junior employee and communicating the tasks takes longer than completing them.
