When You’re Alone, You’re Whole
tl;dr: On the value of solitude.
I heard one of those things that is obvious in hindsight.
On the Life is a Festival podcast, “Love Free From Fear” episode, the guest, Sabine Lichtenfels made a really astute observation.
She said that people can’t be full versions of themselves unless they are comfortable and at peace when in a state of solitude.
But the major point was this. Both in English and in German, the words “alone” and “allein” can be read as “all one” or “alle eine.”
If you are alone, you can be all one. If you can’t be all one when alone, you are not whole.
Especially in a world of omnipresent connectivity, spending time alone is critical.
FWIW, Nietzsche says the same.

4 年Solitude and getting comfortable with oneself is no longer the default option. We must actively cultivate it. If you've ever found yourself bored and immediately default to checking your phone, consider that you may be avoiding building a relationship with yourself. Nice article, Jeremy
