If I had a dollar for every time a founder said "no we don't need PR" -- I wouldn't be writing this post, I'd be double fisting Mai Tai's on a Lazy River somewhere in the Bahamas. ??
The people who get it, get it. And the ones who don't... end up coming back ??
(The minute you're out of stealth...the following applies to you. In fact, I'd argue this advice is most critical to early-stage companies).
So when you say "no" to PR let's take a look at (some of) what you're actually saying "No" to:
?? 80% Increased Visibility: Like we say around here, if you want to be funded then you need to be found. And they can't fund you, if they can't find you. They also can't buy from you if they have no idea who you are, or if they should trust you or not.
?? 10X the Reach: Your mom being your biggest fan isn't exactly a flex, and for startup founders isn't it time we gave our family, friends and employees a break. With PR in your corner, you're looking at potential reach increase of 10X. In other words, would it hurt for 10X the customers to know you exist?

? Ads are nice, but 3rd party credibility is better. And if you want the best of both worlds - you put them together. But keep in mind that the difference between earned and paid media = credibility. And a whopping 92% of customers say they trust earned over advertising and sponsored post.
??? Cue the Expert: You're a pro, duh. But guess what, stats spill the beans that businesses with expert positioning pull in 5x more leads. PR doesn't just open doors; it practically rolls out the red carpet.
?? Power Moves: Sure, likes and shares gives you a nice dopamine hit in the moment. But if you're eyeing investors and other industry hot shots, PR is best used to crank up your chances. 60% of decision-makers say they're more likely to be influenced by thought leadership content.
