When your office Blinds you
Do you really have time for your family? Do your friends find it easy to reach you? Do you even have genuine friends? This has been a silent thought behind my back even as I covered my face in the sand and pretended that all was well. Nobody tells you that they do not care. Or like hyenas, nobody tells you that they are waiting for your hand to drop down when you are walking in the street. They all smile at you in the morning but stab you in the back at tea break.
You skip your morning devotion with your family and rush straight into traffic from your estate gate, you switch on to FM radio station and listen to the faked life on air.Every day you get into the office with a rush of what needs to be done as you peep into an everlasting items on your to do list. My midday your list changes to urgent items for other people that create emergencies from their of lack of planning.
You skip lunch in the name of being a good worker, to finish the quote before two pm or reply to that email or return that phone call. You remember your mum also called and you have not sent your son cash for lunch and that meeting that you need to confirm for after work. Before you realise what is happening, you are in the midst of the afternoon meeting wondering when the Boss will take a bathroom break for you to reply the whats up that already has a double blue tick.
You look up and its 5:59:59, and you to do list is on number 3! You are not even able to finish the most urgent items so you close you laptop like someone switching off a bulb and off you attempt your best route home. Today the dignitaries are passing so you get stuck in traffic listening to peoples stories and jokes that are making you sick. You switch off the radio to be silent for a second and the phone rings, you did not reply the the red marked email. You promise that you will reply once home when you see a police woman waving you on side of the road for talking on phone while driving. You try to say that the vehicles were not moving when she requests to get into your car and drive to the Station.
You hoot at your gate half past 10 pm and do not want to talk before eating yet everyone wants to know why you were not answering your calls and the phone rings again before you answer. It is the follow up for the email you did reply to, you ignore, eat, shower and drop in bed like someone from the other side of the pole vault. You actually blink twice and it is morning again!!
The cycle continues and list grows and the weekends are consumed and you still do not finish.
They always say that when you are in the deep waters, the current is not felt since there are no waves, yet you keep drifting away to the deepest of ends. You need to get on the surface and refocus to the shore. Take a deep breath and think of your life. Do you want to keep doing this 40 hours a day for the next 40 years and end up with a retirement benefit of less than 40% of all you ever invested in?
This is where you come and put one and two together in silence. Why are you here on earth? Why do you think you were given the opportunity to breath and walk and live and talk? Is the blood in your vessels meant to flow for your own activities or for someone else gain? Are really sue you are seeing what is happening? The office has blinded you.
Successful men are paid for doing what they love doing and not what they do to eat. They are timeless and effortless. They are not bound by other peoples schedules but are involved in their own schedules and manage their own diaries and journals.
If you love talking then get paid for talking, if you love helping the poor then find a way of helping them and be paid in your line of personal cherished duty. If you can write and enjoy the flow of words like me then get paid for the dreams you have put in ink.
Finally, do not let the nice coffee breaks or continuous corridor smiles in the office blind you.Get up, wash your face and look at yourself in the mirror. Ask like Myles Munroe, what are you worth ? What is your value? If they value you, they will pay for your services.
