When Your Marketing "Expert" Isn't Really An Expert...
Josh Herman
I live for the deals. Nationwide home buyer focused on helping sellers and revitalizing communities.
I think it's time that somebody said this... Because there's just too much noise out in the market, and if I'm able to save somebody from wasting their hard earned time, money, or both... then it's a job well done in my book...
Since, in today's world... everybody's an "internet marketing expert" or a "digital marketing strategist", we really need to step back and understand WHAT that means. Through no fault of business owners worldwide, they are being mislead and used as, what I call, "Guru Marketing Guinea Pigs"
You might be thinking, "Josh, what the hell is a Guru Marketing Guinea Pig?"
Let me explain... In the world of Facebook marketing we have these "so-called" course creating gurus... They rip off old content, other people in the game, and pretty much package it up nice as a "for profit" scheme.
Don't get me wrong -- not all courses are bad and your learning should never stop. That's not what I'm saying...
What I'm saying is, since everybody is a digital marketing expert (or so they think) in today's market... they are selling their advice as a course that leads people in to replicate their systems.
BUT THEY DON'T WORK. MOST OF THEM HAVEN'T BEEN TESTED...
All too many of the course creators selling their "insane skills" have never had stellar results (like they advertise)
It's just too easy to "fake it til' you make it"
And guess what happens when they "make it"...
The money they make is earned from the sales of the course and usually not from what they are teaching.
That's the challenge...
And lets be honest shall we. Just because John Doe took Guru A's course, DOES NOT mean that they know how to help anybody grow their business... Online or offline.
That doesn't stop the cat from chasing the mouse though, does it? Because since little Johnny paid $997 (all prices HAVE to end in a 7...) he has to take the "action" which creates a bad experience, more often than not, for everybody involved.
Real business growth, lead generation, marketing experience, and any other business skill-set comes from the APPLICATION... The EXPERIENCE.
While learning material does help, it doesn't substitute for real results.
Has your new marketing team ever ran 7 figure yielding email marketing campaigns?
Has your new marketing team ever managed 7 figures in adspend (let alone your measly $5,000)
And obviously, this is a skill that anybody can learn, but from my 15 years of experience of sales and marketing -- the superstars just "have it".
Something intangible that can't be replicated from watching a course. That's the magic of working with a truly gifted business growth specialist, lead generation expert, SEO specialist, yada yada yada...
Let me interject... I know a lot of people that are badass at what they do, and I'm not looking to bash the real professionals, but the guru disciples as a result of everybody being a course creator is not good for the market on the whole.
What are your thoughts? And don't misunderstand me -- I am super stoked that more people are becoming entrepreneurs, but we just have to remember the truth. And the truth is, just because you took a course (on any subject) doesn't make you a professional.
So stop claiming to be.
