When your biggest fear is - “What if I make a mistake?”

When you have a fear of making mistakes, you have a very strong feeling in you that you can do things wrong, you can get it wrong.

Your only focus is on ‘What if i get it wrong?’

Instead of taking failures and making mistakes as a normal truth, you overthink about it and imagine the worst of the worst things happening when you make a mistake.

You have a very bad relationship with making mistakes. For you, making a mistake is no less than the end of the world.

So you try your best to avoid making mistakes and in doing so you give up on a lot of opportunities and try your best to stay hidden, do minimum and not be in the presence of others a lot.

Personally-

I had a very big fear of making mistakes, as a result I would never do things that I wanted to. I would never participate in any event or activity, I would run away from activities that would include me being in front of others, on stage.

And it was not that I didn't want to, in fact I really wanted to do all these things but the fear would be so strong in me that I would never be able to do any of those.

As a result- It would hurt my self esteem more as I gave into my fears every time.

What happens in your mind when you have this fear?

When you have a fear of making mistakes, there's a critical voice that follows you up all the time. It throws you all types of questions, makes you worry unnecessarily, makes you wonder what can go wrong etc.

So, whenever you think of doing something new or in font of new people, you must get questions like these in your mid-

  • “What am I going to do?”
  • “Will I be able to do it?”
  • “What if I get it wrong? People will laugh at me?”
  • “What will they think of me?”

.

  • “I better not do it, or I will get it wrong and these people will think low of me.”

  • “Let’s not go there, there will be a lot of people, what will they think of me?”

  • “I don’t know it completely, I should not try doing it or I will make a mistake.”

.

These questions and statements make you doubt yourself and your capabilities, ultimately stopping you from believing in yourself and doing things that you want to.

It's impact-

This fear of making mistakes makes you avoid doing most new things, which means that you are really not doing anything new in life.

  • You are not learning new things in life,?

  • you are not experimenting something different,?
  • you are not being out there to new people.

I want you to understand that-

This fear is not something you were born with, it is not you. Rather it is something you took on or learnt growing up.

You’ve learnt this fear, it is not your ultimate truth.? Just like you developed it, you can overcome it too.
