When you have no schedule is everything late?

Happy Friday Everyone!

For those who don’t know me, I am very particular when it comes to schedules. I’d rather be an hour early for meetings than a minute late.?

Now, I only schedule meetings on Wednesdays. This means I only have to look at my calendar one day a week. The rest of the time I am schedule-free. This has probably been the biggest challenge in changing mindsets. Going from being eternally optimised in time management to ma?ana ma?ana.

The constant feeling of needing to be productive is waining (thank fuck) and when I get around to things is time enough.?This is exactly the reason why this newsletter is late on a Friday. I was out playing golf and make no apologies for it. I played well thanks for asking.?

The Bank of England increased interest rates to 4.25% this week and for mortgage holders, many mortgages are increasing in line with this. I have been asked a question multiple times now "Whether it makes sense to pay down your mortgage?". The answer is it depends.

However, if you were going to spend the money on a non-essential item instead, pay down the mortgage.

Benefits of paying down your mortgage

  • Less interest to be paid
  • Shorter repayment schedule
  • Security and peace of mind

Drawbacks of paying down your mortgage

  • The opportunity cost of putting the money to work elsewhere. The only real alternative to paying down your mortgage is investing the money in your pension, ISA or investment accounts. Even then, with rising rates and markets in turmoil, it may be a better financial decision to pay down the mortgage. Either way, putting the money to work is the right move.
