Am I dreaming or is it really happening today? I was woken up by loud noise of blowing horns and someone zooming past my window on a bike without the muffler on the exhaust thereby causing it a rrrrrrrooooommmmmmmmmm noise and I was shocked who is riding a bike so rashly in this lock down period?
And then I saw huge number of cars, buses, bullock carts, hand carts, auto rickshaws, private buses, trucks, bulldozers and n number of bikes clogging the road leading to my house and there was a huge traffic jam causing chaos on the road and I could imagine that the world has come back to normal now.
As I opened the window to allow some fresh air, I was welcome by smog, smoke, dust and breeze carrying putrid smell of the rotten vegetables lying on the road. Oh My God, not again! I screamed..all this has started and all the pollution levels are back to top the charts of the city, the hawkers are back to the pavements claiming their rights to the places they had occupied earlier and fighting for an additional inch of space to expand their marketing territories.
And I saw all the birds, pigeons, crows, mynahes who were having a field day all this time are back to the street corners and were hiding at whatever places they could find. The stray dogs and cats were back on the roads causing sudden breaking of vehicles causing screeching noise and curses of people in the vehicles hitting each other for rashly touching their vehicles parts.
And everyone at home was rushing to go out and the news reader on the TV was shouting at the top of his voice declaring that the lock down has finally ended and the people were back to streets in big numbers as never before, the trains have started getting over flooded with people and the buses too were all full and all the vehicles on the road are causing huge traffic jams on the streets.
And no one was wearing any masks, no one was keeping any social distance and all were trying to touch each other from all the sides in the packed train compartments and people were hardly bothered about what lockdown had taught them. They were eating paan and spitting on the roads again, they were smoking on the pavements throwing the butts like earlier and I could see the road side tea stalls were once again doing good business and the vada pav and other snacks makers were back with their hand carts and people were flooding the snack shops and thelas to eat those street foods which they have been missing all this time
And at the office all the people came together after so long and were telling each other what all they did during the lock down and what new things they learnt and practised and the ladies were once again exchanging beauty tips and new recipes and the boss was fuming inside his cabin shouting at people to follow social distancing and team members were laughing out loud at him for asking them to stand away from each other, the canteen was full with people gorging on samosas, vada, idli sambar and dosas with hot cups of tea and coffee
Oh My God! the TV news reader has announced that within a couple of days after the lock down was lifted the number of Covid -19 cases has suddenly gone up by thousands in our city and therefore once again they had announced a month long lock down, I said to myself, "this is going to be a never ending story, if people do not respect the lock down" and after lock down if they want to become normal suddenly the same things are going to be repeated. No God please don't stop the lock down and save all the human lives, pleasessssssssss............

4 年Scary but realistic picture, post lockdown! No doubt, we must practice physical distancing, wear mask, self discipline and follow good hygiene practices that we have learnt afresh. Else, we will face yet another lockdown.
