When You Don't Know What to Do - Do This

When You Don't Know What to Do - Do This

"Equivocation is the thief of dreams." - Sam Horn

I’m here in Miami keynoting a convention, and I’ve also been equivocating. Here’s the story …

I have a confession to make.

As you may know, I have a book launch coming up, and there are so many ways to do a book launch these days, I couldn’t decide which was the BEST way.

In the old days, I used to fly to cities, give public workshops at Learning Annex, Commonwealth Club, National Press Club, do in-person media interviews, and hold book signings at Barnes and Noble, B.A.M. and Borders. (Remember them?)

These days, it’s often smarter (and less expensive) to do a tour virtually via podcasts, social media, affiliate marketing, etc.

So, I’ve been going back-and-forth about what I "should" do.

And going back-and-forth just ends up taking us in circles, right?

Then this morning, I got clarity. (BTW: I often do my best thinking in a hotel room in some other city. Is that true for you too?)

I got tired of (and a bit embarrassed) about vacillating.

So I did what I always do when I don't know what to do.

I sat down and wrote it all down.

And what came out was this quote from Yogi Berra:

"When you come to a fork in the road, take it."

This wasn't an either/or decision, it was a best of both worlds decision.

I stopped trying to figure out the BEST way to move forward, and simply started moving forward.

I picked up the phone and called people, and sat down at the computer and started emailing people.

Can I be on your podcast?

Would you like to co-host an event in your city?

Want to do a fund-raising webinar for your organization?

And guess what?? It felt so good.

I now have the corner pieces of the book tour puzzle filled in, and other people are already starting to jump on the book tour bandwagon because I got it out of the garage.

What is my lesson from all of this?

Equivocation is the thief of dreams.

If you wait to know before you go, you'll never go.

So what does this mean for you?

What's a decision you need to make - an action you want to take?

Are you going back-and-forth about the best way to do it?

That's rocking chair thinking, it gives you something to do but doesn't get you anywhere.

Instead…

Ask for help.

Pick up the phone.

Send out an email.

Get your bandwagon out of the garage so people can jump on it.

Now, I will practice what I teach and make an ask and an offer.

Want to co-host an event together?

I will be in the following cities doing VIRTUAL and LIVE events.

Austin, TX | June 4 - 14

New York, NY | June 15 - 18

Washington DC | June 19 - 23

Chicago, IL | June 24 - 26

Denver, CO | July 1 - 7

San Francisco, CA | July 8 - 10

Los Angeles, CA | July 11 - 13

San Diego, CA | July 14 - 16

Here's the ask and the offer:

If you'd like to purchase 50 copies of TALKING ON EGGSHELLS for your:

* corporate/community book club

* association/nonprofit members

* customer service/sales/management team

* convention attendees or workshop participants

* emerging leaders, new-hires or fast-trackers

I'd be happy to offer your choice of a virtual:

* 50 minute "Meet the Author" program for your group

* 50 minute training for your team

* 50 minute internal interview with your CEO/senior executive

* 50 minute private consultation/strategy session

This 50 minute program would be on the topic of your choice from my new book - and could be customized for your group.

This offer is available from June - August only (as this represents a fraction of my normal fees.)

Intrigued? Want to see if I'm available for a LIVE event in your city?

You'll welcome to contact me at the email address in my bio.

My team, publisher, and I will get creative and - together - we'll figure out how this can be a rising-tide win for all involved.

Hope to see you in person or online this summer.

Oh my gosh! I did that so many times and it provided so many positive experiences for me. Some told me I was taking risks, others said it was too late to make those decisions, and one said "how can I help?" So grateful for that one voice...
