When You Do What You Love, Everything Changes

When You Do What You Love, Everything Changes

In today’s fast-paced business world, it’s all too easy to follow advice that doesn’t align with who you truly are. Over the years, I’ve noticed that one of the biggest challenges my coaching clients face is doing things simply because they were told to—rather than because it fuels their passion and aligns with their strengths.

The Problem with “One-Size-Fits-All” Advice

Take Instagram, for example. Many entrepreneurs are urged to harness the power of social media to grow their businesses. But if you’re not naturally drawn to the world of digital self-promotion, forcing yourself to be active on Instagram can feel more like a chore than a growth strategy. You might be sacrificing authenticity for the sake of trends, which can lead to burnout and frustration.

Embrace Your Authentic Strengths

What happens when you pivot from “doing what you’re told” to “doing what you love”? Everything changes.

  • In-Person Networking as Your Superpower: If you thrive on face-to-face interactions and enjoy the energy of networking in person, why not make it the cornerstone of your business model? Yes, some might say that in-person networking takes time and is “slower” than digital methods, but here’s the truth: if it aligns with your natural talents, it won’t feel like a grind. Instead, it will be a genuine expression of who you are—and that authenticity resonates with people.
  • Rethinking What You “Hate”: On the flip side, if you despise networking, then it’s time to either invest in learning a new approach that feels more authentic or consider shifting your business model. Sometimes, what we think we hate is merely a sign that we’re not doing it in a way that fits us. Experiment with different methods until you find the style of communication or connection that feels natural to you.

Sell What You Love, Not What You’re Told to Sell

Your passion is your secret weapon. When you sell something that you love, your enthusiasm is contagious. It transforms the sales process into a conversation—a shared journey with your clients rather than a pitch that feels forced. In contrast, selling something just because “everyone else is doing it” rarely creates the lasting impact you’re capable of achieving.

Consider these guiding questions:

  • Why did I start my business? Was it because of a deep-seated passion, or because someone told you it was the “right” thing to do?
  • Am I leveraging my unique strengths? Aligning your business with what you love isn’t just about making your work more enjoyable—it’s about tapping into your full potential.

Changing Your Mindset, Changing Your Life

When you make the conscious decision to do what you love, you shift your mindset from one of obligation to one of purpose. This isn’t just a strategy for business success—it’s a recipe for a fulfilling life. Embracing what truly resonates with you means:

  • Increased Authenticity: People are drawn to authenticity. When you’re genuine about your passions, your audience can sense it, and they’re more likely to trust and support you.
  • Sustainable Growth: Working in a way that feels natural to you often leads to more sustainable and satisfying growth. You’re not constantly fighting against your nature, and that makes the journey more enjoyable and less draining.
  • Enhanced Creativity: When you’re in your element, creativity flows more freely. This not only enhances your work but also opens up new possibilities for innovation within your business.

Final Thoughts

The core message is simple: Do what you love, and everything changes. Instead of adhering to generic advice that may not serve you, invest time in discovering and honing the practices that align with your true self. Whether it’s embracing in-person networking, reimagining your approach to digital marketing, or simply selling what ignites your passion—make your business an extension of who you are.

Remember, success isn’t about following the latest trend. It’s about creating a path that feels right for you. So, ask yourself: what do I truly love doing? And how can I make that the heart of my business?

Let’s start a conversation—share your experiences or the challenges you face when trying to align your business with your passions. Together, we can redefine success on our own terms.

Great article!! I love the old saying' "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life." Too often, coaches don't understand the person they are coaching and use the cookie-cutter approach. I know, I've had them. I believe you should never allow anyone to talk you into doing what doesn't feel aligned to you. You're right, "do what you love, and everything changes."
