What we’re writing about

?? A new EU mission has sent some?suitably space-age tech ?into the cosmos. On a Vega rocket that launched from the European spaceport in French Guyana on Monday, the union sent six satellites and nine experiments into orbit. We've picked five of our favourite projects getting the in-orbit testing.

?? The world’s largest offshore wind farm has started exporting power to the UK grid — but it can’t mask the UK’s?green energy failures . The powering up of the (potentially) 3.6GW Dogger Bank comes amid a watering down of climate policy by the country’s Conservative government. Currently, it's planning to clamp down on solar panel installations across British farmland, which campaigners say will stall the UK’s green transition and raise bills.

?? German startup WINGCOPTER has launched a?drone and electric cargo-bike ?delivery project to bring everyday consumer goods to remote rural areas in Central Germany. The pilot is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), as part of a broader “Innovative Air Mobility” funding directive of €430,000.

?? Cambridge aims to?double its unicorns ?and has plans to introduce a support scheme for founders. The initiative will combine capital, networks, and talent; the entrepreneurs who join the programme are expected to raise over £700mn in the first five years.

?? French startup MECAWARE has?raised €40mn in funding ?to industrialise its battery recycling technology, designed to produce strategic raw materials. Its technology, born from research at the University of Lyon, is based on a chemical process that uses CO? to separate different metals in battery cells in order to recover, restore, and reuse them.

Keep on shining, people. Till next time!
