When Work and Home Collide
Dr. Elwanda Bennett, MEDP, PMP
Challenge the present. Change the future.
Too many times I've heard the word unprecedented. It is exhausting, overused, trite and useless. We get it. The pandemic is a big deal.
I am a silver lining person. i keep looking for it like some frustrated insane Pollyanna but I just can't help it. I just prefer to keep looking on the bright side. I prefer to use another u word unfathomable. I never knew i could work and be happy at the same itme.
I have been phreaked out and stressed out by the video meetings that go on from sun up to sun down. I worry about the racket my grand babies make. My apartment is not a tidy place, I have never been much of a housekeeper preferring to spend time on books and papers rather than mops, brooms and other important chore things. I just want to read, study, teach, talk and hang out. That is it. Oh, and I like eating as well. That's cool.
Everything else I do is just time in-between spending time with the people that I actually work for. My home based coworkers.
They report to work half nude. Sometimes they come into my office (i.e. bedroom) totally naked. I just burst out laughing and scoop my bestie up to take him somewhere before my next onscreen performance starts. My more mature coworker wants to explains things to me constantly that I should be fully aware of - like - how he posits the sun works and what happens to zom-bid-dees.
I get tickled by their antics. There are 4.75 and 1.75 in age. They make me smile when work some times does not. I get truly exited to interact with them. I was here when Tahj started walking, I was there the moment when he called Levi for the first time, I got to see Levi build a bird house - which Tahj promptly destroyed. Oh well.
They are planning to move but I hope they stay as long as things are weird. I just like being in their company. It gives me space to breathe between the often tense and difficult adult encounters I face. There are five generations in my work place and three at my house.
Unprecedented my butt.
